OMG help! plugins keep turning off!

The thing with disabling and reinabling all the mods then setting the files to real only does not work. Sorry

Then you did not do it correctly. In Nexus Mod Manager, go into the Plugins tab, and re-enable the plugins. Now if you set plugins.txt (located in the users/<user>/AppData/Fallout4/ folder) to read-only, the launcher cannot edit the file, and your load order will work. But Nexus Mod Manager will complain that it cannot edit the file whenever you start it, so I wouldn't actually recommend doing that.

You can also get around the problem by by-passing the launcher entirely. For example, using the F4SE loader runs the game directly, which means the launcher won't start, and plugins.txt won't be edited. That's how I will be running the game until Bethesda fixes the problem.

The other way of doing it is to open the launcher, open Nexus Mod Manager, re-enable your plugins, then start the game through the launcher. But it seems like a lot of work for something you have to do every time you start the game.

So far, there is only one workaround that I know checks out. I will post it below.

Right now as it stands i have found only ONE successfuly method for playing my Fallout 4 as it was fully modded before this darn update. its is as follows:

(( First i went into the settings 'cog' at the top of NMM and in the general tab unchecked ' close Nexus Mod manger after game launch' )) then..

1) Open NMM.

You will see all the plugins unchecked. (or maybe checked) anyways...

2) Top top left of NMM you will see a tab ' Launch Fallout 4'.

3) Click it once. this opens up a FO4 launch popup. when it does this, after a few seconds you will suddenly see all your plugins on NMM uncheck automatically.grrr...

4) click the green Tick on the left and activate them all again.

5) Now on the game launcher popup for Fallout 4 click PLAY.

The game should run with all your MODS.

Only downside so far is you have to do this each time you freshly launch NMM and Fallout 4 via steam.

I am sure there are better ways to do this and i hope a fix soon but this clumsy method i use works for now.

All thanks goes to sophiextime for figuring this out. Or at least for being the first person to put it in a place where I found and tried it. :)

hello Sophie =)

Happened to me too. Here's the workaround:

  1. Open Nexus Mod Manager.
  2. Go to the Plugins tab. You'll notice nothing is checked.
  3. Open the Fallout 4 launcher.
  4. Click the green checkmark and Yes to quickly re-enable the plugins.
  5. Launch the game as normal. Your mods work!

enjoy =)

I see nowhere to place a green checkmark in the Fallout 4 Launcher (if you mean the launcher that also allows you to change graphics settings, et al).

All of my Nexus Plugins (esm + esp) have been reordered and now the game is utterly farked as far as item code ordering and the items that are placed in the game. I am finding that, instead of a pre-fab house all decked out and storing the vast majority of my possessions, suddenly replaced by some hazmat suit that took over its position in the ordered list. I've only got about 54 plugins (about 6 total esm's, including Fallout4.esm).

It doesn't really matter how it got jacked up.... but how do I fix it? This game is unplayable like this unless I start over again.

Please!! HALP!

I did this but for me the problem is, that it still unchecks itself.

1) Install your mods with Nexus Mod Manager
2) Close your mod manager.
3) Find "plugins.txt", right click > properties > uncheck "read only"
4) Open "plugins.txt"
5) Add an asterisk before all .esp mods.

Your plugins.txt list should look something like
Fallout4.esm
DLCrobots.esm
*Console-enable.esp

*Coolmod.esp
(you may place any other .esp here with an * before it)

6) Save "plugins.txt"
7) Find "plugins.txt", right click > properties > check "read only"
 Load FO4 WITH THE VANILLA GAME LAUNCHER.

You must then repeat this process every time you make any changes to your mod list or open Nexus Mod Manager. Yes, every time. It's annoying but until they updated NMM this is how you must do it.
