Story spoiled by not staying on the rails

So there i was exploring, not even close to diamond city because despite what story or role bethesda felt like forcing on me i didnt feel the urgency to go find some dumb baby that i didint want any part of. I figure i'll make my way to diamond city in a way that makes sense while completing all the quests that are on my way there! anyway i end up in goodneighbor and i get the railroad quest and when i finally meet up with yet another retardedly written character a la bethesda one of my dialogue choices is something about revenge for my family for what the institute did!? WHAT!? son of a *censored*... gee i wonder if the institute has anything to do with my son and my annoyingly voiced husbands death. so yeah when i get to diamond city my "streamlined" character is going to be all like "oh i'm looking for my baby shaun! oh good god woe is me! i'm a sickly worried mother! i have no clue what happened to my baby!" gee *censored* that's funny cause you told the damn railroad bleeding heart tards you wanted revenge for what the institute did to your family.

tl;dr

I was taking my time getting to diamond city and doing the main story, doing all the other quests on my way there and when doing the railroad quest i was given the dialogue choice of "revenge for my family" as in why i wanted to fight the institute, hence spoiling the main story.

the way bethesda wants you to play their game: http://www.recruitingformlm.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Horse2.jpg the streamlined console experience. kind of ironic that it was a quest for THE RAILROAD.

Considering what the average PC is like these days, getting your panties in a knot and using "bethesda sucks" tags because ONE line of dialogue in many thousands has the wrong trigger seems rather... out of proportion, no offense.

Not to mention that your character could be just making something up, if they have to convince the railroad to let them join. It may coincidentally be true, but given the scene, I see no reason why someone couldn't make that up.

Especially given other hints about the institute and synths, like the Art vs Art encounter (which I consistently get before I get anywhere NEAR Diamond City), or Hancock's speech at the balcony in Goodneighbour if you've been there anyway, or the dead synth replacing a human in the same Goodneighbour you already visited, etc, etc, etc. There are plenty of hints at that point for your character to make the connection that it's at least believable for those guys to be involved.

Sure you could say that you were making up a story in order to join the railroad and had it not been an incredibly streamlined bethesda game i might of thought that also. i mean it'd make more sense to take the "i want to save synths" choice if you wanted to join the railroad instead of lying to them. but how is it that i saw that and i immediately knew it was bethesdas horrible writing and the fact that they streamlined this game and it's story? it's not just about one line it's about how they so obviously and blatantly railroaded the story, to the point where if you explore other areas it spoils the story, because oops you were meant to explore outside the main quest yet!

the bethesda sucks tag is msotly for anyone else searching for other peoples frustration with bethesda, mostly. do they suck? yes and no, in some ways yes in others no, but to be honest they do suck in making a good plot. but they're pretty good at setting up a world to explore and giving modders the resources to build on that.
