Modable Combat Armor Emblems

So I've seen several different mods and requests involving the star emblem on combat armor. Some people want to remove the star entirely, some people want to replace it with other symbols. All fine and dandy. But I'm wondering if it might not be easier to instead make the chest-piece emblem a mod option in the armor crafting menu, just like any other mod slot. This would allow the player to have a blank emblem or one of dozens of emblems, some lore-friendly, others less so.

 

Anyone else like this idea? I've seen extra mod slots done in some mods, and I've seen emblem replacements/retextures. I don't know much about modding, but I imagine that if these two can be done, it shouldn't be too far of a leap to making emblems/paint jobs for combat armor it's own thing.
