Beast race remoddeling

:excl: Are there any mods that remoddel the argonian and kajhit race. I dont like there looks in oblivion because they look too humanoid. i wish they would look like what they did in moorowind withe the bent legs and all. if anyone knows of such a mod, please tell me! if not could anyone please make one.

Someone managed to set up something that can change a character's body mesh. You could probably use the same setup to switch beast race bodies to more furry/scaly versions. As this wouldn only involve minor alterations to the shape of the mesh, animations and clothing wouldn't be problematic.

 

You might be able to use normal maps to accomplish the same thing, if they can be set for specific races. SickleYield could probably answer that.

 

@Sickle: Can the same technique be used to swap skeletons?

I'm no scripter, so I'm not sure what and how Breeze made his Bodyshapes mod. I really don't think it's possible to swap out skeletons on player characters/npcs even with scripting, but I can't negate the possibility - at the very least it would take a very talented and interested scripter who is unlikely to materialize.

 

It's not actually necessary to have Bodyshapes to do new beast bodies, but that would probably be the easiest way. Spike 4072 over at CI was partway through a mod to give the Khajiits, at least, a more beastlike lower half (more were-creature like than the splaylegged Morrowind walk). He told me he was using a script that would add the lower half as a clothing item not visible in inventory which would be equipped whenever a character was naked. He finished the male lowerbody and feet and got partway through making armor for it before he quit on the project.

 

I've thought about making a flatchested Argonian female upperbody, which would only require mild clothing tweaks, but there's no way I'd spend the hours and hours and hours to redo the entire body structure into a Morrowind-like one AND redesign all the clothes in the game.

The Khajiit don't interest me enough to spend the time involved.

 

Normal maps are pretty limited in their use. They can be used to add depth to fur and scales, and I do use such maps in my own game, but the end result isn't a huge difference in looks. I released some new Khajiiti normal maps once, but the fact that I was immediately blasted for not redesigning the entire body AND coming up with a working body swap script AND making it look exactly like the requester wanted turned me off on ever again acceding to any request related to bodies of beast races.
