Tarantella
Hi there :) (I've actually replied with this problem to another member in the Bug Reports forum but I thought I'd post here to 'open' the topic a bit more - so apologies for the duplication.) I've lost the passing dialogue spoken by NPC's in my game, the little bits of banter and chatter the NPC's give when they are walking around talking to you or to each other. Their lips still move, but there is no sound. All other sound effects seem to be working and the NPC voices are fine when I 'talk' to them about quests, purchasing/selling goods etc. This is not fixed when starting a new game. I am using quite a few mods but nothing that alters NPC sounds. I've unchecked each in turn with no luck but i've not tried unchecking combinations of them yet. I keep a clean copy of vanilla oblivion and having checked that the problem wasn't audio settings in game, I copied over 'clean' voice .bsa files and Sound voice files. I'm a bit stumped, so any help gratefully received. It's a bit eerily quiet in game without them. Many thanks Tarantella :)
Tarantella
I appear to have fixed the problem by carefully re-installing EVERYTHING! So I hope it doesn't happen again but it still doesn't seem to solve the problem of what went wrong in the first place. Very Strange. Anyway, now I'm not so lonely in Cyrodill and can listen to the mindless banter of my fellow denizens :D
Hairry
I'm not sure about your problem, but I had a similar experience. I noticed when playing with headsets. All active dialogues (with activated characters) were fine, but the idle chatter was sometimes fading. I found that it's ok when I turn my back to the characters, but they become silent if I look at them. Then I realised that on my 5.1 system I mixed up the front and rear speaker's plugs. The headset is using the front speakers' signal. Usually you don't have to phisically change the plugs, you can re-assign them through Control Panel. Maybe a complete reinstall autodetected the correct settings.
