TennesseeTuxedo
NMM was updated a month ago where it forced me to uninstall all 250 of my Skyrim mods. It offered to re-install them but I noticed on the large mods like 3DNPC it was taking hours to re-install them so I had to kill it. Now my Skyrim is in shambles but you know, it's good to clean house sometimes. But then I got another message when I opened NMM yesterday to play FO4 that a new NMM version is available but I, once again, need to uninstall and reinstall all of my mods. Is this how its going to work from now on? For a large number of mods this seems unworkable as a regular activity. Any suggestions on the best mod manager if you have a lot of mods and don't want this thrashing? I play Skyrim and Fallout 4. Sprucie
I think it's just warning you if you are upgrading from the version before the major update. It won't uninstall your mods again. Edited December 20, 2015 by Sprucie
UhuruNUru
Basically that only occurred for v5 to v6, because of the fundamental change to how it treats the mods.I fact NMM works more like MO now and though technically still different, to the user they give similar results. Now you never need to uninstall the mods from NMM at all.You can delete the entire game folder and all the mods as well. Then simply select the right profile in NMM and you can watch it rebuild your mods onto the vanilla game in seconds. So the reality is that the new NMM should never need another rebuild the mods list by hand. Each mod profile has a virtual mods folder where they are kept as isolated mods. The major difference with MO is that NMM builds the Data Folder's contents, in the games actual Data Folder, when the profile is selected.MO never touches the games actual Data Folder, the Virtual Data folder of MO doesn't really exist and is created afresh when the game is started. The key features both use, is mod isolation and installation to a dedicated none game folder. Reinstalling the mods to the game has become a trivial matter. It only takes seconds to do with profiles and mod isolation.
TennesseeTuxedo
Reinstalling the mods to the game has become a trivial matter. It only takes seconds to do with profiles and mod isolation. Reinstalling mods definitely was not trivial in Skyrim. I let NMM do its thing, it uninstalled all 200+ of my mods, then went on for hours only getting 40+ re-installed in that time. In particular a large mod (3DNPC "Interesting NPCs" for skyrim) took over an hour before I killed it. At that point my NMM software was upgraded but I need to re-install all my mods manually, which I am ok with since I killed the re-install process. But here's the thing, I started playing/modding FO4 with this new UPGRADED NMM, installed about 50 mods and now NMM is saying that for the latest upgrade it needs to, yet again, uninstall and re-install all my mods. Luckily I did not rebuild my Skrim mod list otherwise I would have to sit through that uninstall/re-install fiasco all over again! I like to run with a lot of mods so I can't have a mod organizer that gets near daily updates but requires hours of uninstall/reinstall. Thank you for the info on MO, maybe that is what I need to look at.

As I said after that first update to v6+, adding and removing mods is trivial. but you don't have to even do it for updtes from one v6+ to a later one. It's a one time event, required when moving from v5 or less to any v6.
