Which file allows me to alter LOD and what do the different LOD settings mean?

I have been trying to increase the LOD recently but wasn't sure which file to change, I noticed there are two user settings files in the documents/witcher3 folder one named 'user.settings.BAK' the other 'user.SETTINGS' but there is also the rendering.cfg file in 'C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\platform\pc' has LOD settings in there too.

 

Also what do the different named LOD settings change like what components of LOD are they effecting?

 

Finally does LOD rely more heavily on GPU or CPU?
