Fahrvergnugn
I hope this is the right place to post this. Would it be possible to add a field in the Advanced Search for keywords to exclude? I like browsing through all the new mods, but I'd love the option to filter out all the mods that I see with certain words in the titles. I'm currently playing FO:4 but I think this would be useful for many games. To give a better idea of what I'm after, there are a lot of "mods" that aren't actual mods, but are save game files and presets that don't really fit the category of "mod." I'd love to be able to filter these out by entering key words, such as: preset, save, even texture (I can look for textures separately through categorization or keywords). If you wanted to go further, you could add a filter to exclude mod author names as well, but that goes beyond the scope of my request. This post is not to say that those presets or saved game files are bad at all, just that there are so many and it'd be nice to be able to filter them out when you're not looking for those types of mods. The goal here is to uncover hidden gems of mods that have become buried and not noticed due to what I'll call mod-flooding. This would make them a lot easier to find. bben46
Unfortunately most people are used to Google search where a big company spent millions of dollars to make a very good search engine. Nexus is stuck with the search engine that comes with the software package - and The company that made the package didn't spend millions putting in features that very few people would use. However, you can use Google with all of its really good search engine operators to search Nexus mods. Just prefix the Google search with nexusmods.com: then the search along with any operators you want. The prefix tells google to restrict it's search to Nexusmods.com If you want to search only Skyrim mods then it will be Nexusmods.com/Skyrim: ( the colon shows where the label ends and the search starts) As for filtering out things like savegames - Tag search works for that. If you have selected to not see savegames in your tag selections, then the search will not return them either. How to use tags to block content you don't want to seeAs the tags may be different for different games you may have to do this for each game you follow.1. Look in the upper right corner of any page on the File downloads for that game ( where you get the mods) Find your name - mine looks like 'bben46's account - click on that 2. In the drop down menu, select 'User Area'3. In the new window look on the left and down until you find the 'Files' category. Click on 'Block Tags' at the bottom of the list.4. On the new page click on the box for each category you want to not see. A check mark will show on any you have selected (clicking again will uncheck them)5. IMPORTANT: after selecting all of the categories you want to block, scroll to the bottom and click on the green BLOCK THESE TAGS for it to take effect.Done.
Fahrvergnugn
I had considered using Google to search Nexusmods, but I wanted to browse mods, not just search for them, and I didn't realize how difficult it would be to implement on the website (for convenience and ease of use). The tagging thing sounds like a good idea I hadn't thought of, at least to the extent that the authors properly tag their "mods." I'll give that a go. Thanks! Edit: Blocking tags removed 30 pages out of 202, so that's a start!
Thandal
@welikedustybetter; Don't depend on authors to tag their mods. There were thousands uploaded here before the tagging system was even implemented. Players can tag mods! Take a few minutes when you visit the Nexus to add a few (appropriate) tags to mods that need them. Consider it a little pay-back for the service the site provides. (Maybe something to do while you wait on a download?)
Fahrvergnugn
That is a very useful thing to know, thanks! Being as anal about organization as I am, I'll probably be doing that quite frequently.
bben46
Thank you. We have far too many people who take the tags for granted without ever considering that this is a simple way to contribute to the site that doesn't cost them anything.
