gozo1
Hi, As the title says, I have the game running fine in Windows 10, but it's apparently recommended to run the unofficial patch, Do I need to install FOSE, or any mod manager to get this to work, or do I just run the exe? I have started a game and am about 2 and a half hours in. Will I have to start again once the patch is installed?
gozo1
Found the answer: Just make sure you have all the data files checked for the DLC and then run the .exe for the patch - it automatically installs into the correct directory. I don't seem to have to start a new game. Edited January 7, 2016 by gozo1
Michieux
When I try to run Updated_Unofficial_Fallout3_Patch-19122-2-1, I get a Windows (10) error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." I have no problem running/installing other programs from this folder, so I don't know why I'm getting this error. Also, the file size shown on Nexus is 214,741kb, but on my disk it is 214,742kb. When I check 'properties' for the file, it gives the size as: 209 MB (219,895,012 bytes) and the size on disk as: 209 MB (219,897,856 bytes). Any ideas? Any help appreciated. M. gozo1
Are you the administrator on your account? Try and right-click and "run as administrator". See if that fixes it.

See if that fixes it.Exceedingly sorry for this late reply. Yes, I'm the only user of the PC and have all rights. That wasn't the problem. It turned out to be my antivirus software, in my case, Kaspersky, but I remember having had the same issue crop up often with ZoneAlarm before I switched to Kaspersky. In fact, just about every time I've had a software problem it's been the AV causing it. But you wouldn't know it from the Windows 10 error message: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." Always the same message, always the same cause. So if anyone experiences this problem and gets a similar Win 10 error message, it's probably a good idea to check if your AV software is blocking the program you've just installed and are running for the first time. Do this before anything else -- it can save a lot of head and heartaches. Thanks for reading.
