smuppet
I got Morrwind way back when it just came out for xbox. When i got brand new high spec pc i bought the GOTY edition for old times sake but had a really annoying problem when i started playing... When I try open the hatch it just freezes. You can here the sounds from Seyda Neen like the Stilt Strider and stuff but it stays frozen. My comp is completely up to spec for the game so i dont think its that. Any suggestions? Povuholo
Unlikely if it's your first game, but I'll ask anyway. Are you using mods?
Crisb92
What are your computer's specifications? There may be something that disagrees with Morrowind, computers are like that, mine was with Oblivion until I upgraded.
LauraCeleste
Please say someone knows how to fix this... I just bought Morrowind, brought it home all excited (because I got hooked on a friend's Oblivion copy on her Xbox 360 and I knew I couldn't run it on my comp; Morrowind was the next best thing) loaded all the disks on my computer, and I get as far as the hatch to Seyda Deen (sp?) before it locks up when I try to open it. My monitor immediately goes black and I get the "DVI out off" message that means my monitor is no longer communicating with my video card. I can hear the game running, but cannot go further. And yet, I took the game to my laptop (a 2.4 ghz with an ATI Radeon 7500) and it loaded and runs fine, albeit slowly and jerkily, but at least I can play it. MY SPECS on the machine which locks up: Pentium IV 2.8 ghz1 gb ramATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128 mb video card Everything else is spec; sound is fine, et cetera. I am running no mods, as I just installed the game for the first time. If anyone else has this issue, what did you do to solve it?

Before you do the hatch thingy, let it warm up like i do when i first load a save.

Crisb92
Have you tried defragmenting your harddrive? It may be looking for a file that it can't find, which is causing it to crash. Normally Morrowind crashes are random, but dependant on the memopry usage of your computer, so before trying I wouls suggest ending all processes, oh, and turn pixel shading off, as that is more likely to cause the crashes, due to the incresed amount of memory needed to 'pixel shade' the water. Have you tried reinstalling? As there may be a file missing from the original install, also it may be something to do with Vista, unless your using it on your laptop, as I thinkn I may have heard something about that. Hope this helps.
