What we can do NOW versus what we can do after the geck is released

So I was actually curious, what are the current limitations of modding fallout 4 at the moment? I mean, there are plenty of mods available already Several well known let's players and those that review mods, have mentioned on more then one occasion that when the g.e.c.k is released, a lot more will be possible. But from my (ignorant) point of view, there is plenty possible already. Or is it more of a question of it being easier? (As in, now you have to make a work around and after you just use the official tools)

So that's what I would like to know. What is impossible now and what of those impossibilities will be made possible after the release of the official tools?

Thanks for the answer!

Plenty of things can be done already, but it is not practical. Level design and quests are something that one can't really do in any way even close to practical without the GECK. Quest mods, player homes, custom companions and that sort of mods will start appearing once the GECK is out.

Compiling and attaching scripts is definitely one of the biggest things in my opinion we have to wait for. Plus with the new CK, the unknowns in FO4Edit can start to be filled in.

You can do that even now. Caprica Papyrus Compiler is on Nexus, and FO4Edit allowes to attach scripts and edit script's properties. There are even custom scripted mods already released.
