risen3 [Spoilers] Risen 3: Tips for accessing areas before Chapter 3.

Starting playing R3 the other day (only a year or so late...lol).

PC version Enhanced Edition with DLC on win 8.1 (Yuck) x64.

 

Here's some holes in the game I've found in my playthrough (didn't see any mention in other guides I'd seen).

Basically you can explore nearly everywhere whithout doing any quests or joining factions (aka pre Chapter 3).

Your able to obtain 30 of the 30 collectable items without even being in a faction before getting up to Chapter 3.

They allow you to gain early acces to:

 

 

Polly's Daddy cave without meeting polly or without having joined a faction.

(So you can get the Best Statted Armor and Hero's Crown Permanent Skill Plant)

 

Get Beyond the gate at Kila whithout joining a faction or knowing the ancient knowledge.

(Get the Pirates Flag and various Permanent Skill Plants)

 

Enter the Head Mages tower on Taranis before joining factions and not even been to the mages camp or done any prior quests.

(Get the Sun Crystal and the Shadow Fire permenant skill plant)

 

Cross the lava to the east side on Calador without joining a faction or doing any quests.

(Get the Crankshaft and various Permenant Skill Plants)

 

 

This means before joining a faction you can retrieve:

All quest weapon parts.

All collectable items.

All permanent skill plants.

 

On with the game holes, aka Exploits, aka Cheats...

 

Polly's Daddie's Cave (Tacarigua):

When approaching the collapsed cave head arround to the right of the entrance up the rocks into the corner, your head will be clipping the rocks.

Start jumping while clipping and you will eventually clip through the rocks where you will have access to the Chest and the Hero's Crown.

(Diagonal strafe jumping in the corner seems to clip through the quickest)
Be careful as there's a small drop and you may lose a bit of health sometimes.
(Use teleport to boat to get out)

Note: you will need a lockpick or rust spell to open the lock level 10 chest to get the Armor:

East Side of the Lava (Calador) :

This journey is not not easy or short and most the time your flying blind.

But once you've done it once you'll find it a hell of a lot easier to do again.

 

1. To the west of the collapsed Skull Cave on the left of the semi cave (where soul eater is) you can jump up on the rock and use a parrot flight and head straight north clipping through the rocks.

2. Keep heading north, it's a wibbly wobbly path to keep the parot climbing up the incline inside the clipped rocks up north to the peak.
The initial start after clipping through the first rocks is fairly blind as you will be following a ridge that looks like it's blocked by rocks, those rocks have no collision so you just keep clipping through them staying on the inclining ridge.
Keep short diagonaly flying left and right on the ridge heading north to keep accending, after a while you will get a solid glimpse of your incline where your trying to get to.

East Side of the Lava (Calador) Continued :

 

3. After hitting the north peak follow it east towards the big mountain peak (that is partially glowing orange of a night).

4. When near the big mountain peak, head south following a south bound jagged ridge below that meets a big rock.
The mountain rock has no collision and you will pass straight through it and the south bound jagged edge disappears.

5. As you pass through the rocks heading south you will see an orange dot on the ground below to your right and the a trickling lava mountain peak will be on your left.

6. Head in the direction the orange glowing dot on the ground you will start to see the lava canal on your right, follow along it.
From here you can now start seeing the ruined buildings and the light house in the far distance etc.
Keep in mind you are miles up in the air so it takes a while to glide down towards the land or buildings.

The red circle is the tower with the other half of the Calador Sword.
The curved red line means stay near the lava canal till you get closer.

Myself I land in the ruins where the the other half of the Calador sword is, as there's a parrot flight to pick up as well (which will help get to the next spot on the map).
(Top tier of the tower has some goodies and a parrot flight, next tier underneath has some more goodies, next tier underneath is the other part of the Calador Sword and another parrot flight).

If you have the Monkey Trainer skill, drop a monkey while here and use him to run around the map and get the Crankshaft, various permanent skill plants, the Sphere Torn blade and any other loot without being hindered by hostiles.

 

Where you land and what you do is your choice :smile:

Beyond the gate (Kila):

At the far right hand side of the gate wall (just near heros crown plant) just between the cave and the wall.
Point yourself into the corner and turn to your left slightly (roughly 45 degrees, you'll be facing the wall and a low rock with a small palm frong plantI it's about the corner of the rock and jump around a little (Diagonal strafe jumping usually clips you through quickest).
It'll look like it's going nowhere, then you'll see your in the wall and through it (it's almost like a an invisible slit you jump through).

Head Mage Skull Cave (Taranis):

1. Topmost Norththeast corner of the map there is a crevice that runs from the water in under the Skull Cave.

2. Using a Parrot Flight you can approach the the crevice from the east side of the island.

Approach getting the highest line you can without using the Parrot lift key.

(You will need all the whole lift bar when you enter the the crevice to reach the ledge at the end).

3. Once you've entered the crevice as high as you can, hit the parrot lift key and fly all the way to the end of the crevice.

You will land on a small ledge in the very end of the crevice.

Turn around and face the way you came and look up to your right and you'll see a small foot brigde.

4. Use another parrot flight and use the lift key and head straight up to the side of the foot bridge (the side closest to the crevice entrance).

You will only just make it, just aim straight there flat out lift key the whole way.

You will now be inside the Skull Cave where you can access the other half of the Kraken Sword, wander out of the cave and grab the Shadow Fire plant and head up to the mage quarters and grab the Sun Crystal and loot to your hearts content.

Permanent Skill Plants Quantities And Locations

Side Note:

All permanent skill boost plants are accessable before joining a faction (aka before Chapter 3).

Basically you can aquire every permanent plant apart from 2 Soul Lichen (that are in Margoloth's cave) without any weapons or armor and killing no one.

Dodge, Coastline Water, Parrot Flight and Monkey Trainer get you nearly everything without weapons, armor or killing :smile:

 

Feel free to add plants I may have missed (Bloodcap maybe?)

 

Bloodcap (Spirit) 8x Locations

1. Antigua - Skull Cave on your right in a small alcove just before the walkway that approaches the waterfall.
2. Calador - On a platform you jump over the lava flow on the west side of the lava north of the cemetary. (path leads to the stolen Engraved Candle Holder).
3. Calador - East side of the lava in the small swamp area behind the turnip growers shack (Chapter 3 area, cheat to here anytime before hand).
4. Fog Island - North mid ship graveyard on the top floor of a wrecked ship.
5. Kila - To the right of the gate in a cave hidden by shrubs near hero's crown and teleport.
6. Killa - In the Temple, head left where you find a door with a hole, requires Monkey Trainer. (Chapter 3 area, cheat to here anytime before hand).
7. Tacarigua - In Swamp Shadowlands as you approach the path up to Rosco on the right there is a small alcove on your right with a climble ledge.
8. The Isle of Thieves - Southeast in the cave where 2 Leviathons (Gnome Eaters) guard the entrance, follow the cave to the T intersection and turn left.

 

 

Hero's Crown (Toughness) 10x Locations

1. Antigua - In a little alcove where Romanov's Treasure is (requires Monkey Trainer or Parrot Flight to access it).
2. Calador - Where you pick up the engraved candle holder near the northwest side of the lava, guarded by a Lava Golem.
3. Calador - Northwest from the Hunters Shack teleport, beside the edge of the water canyon the that runs east to west (Crystal Golem and Shadow Guardian guarding it)
4. Crab Coast - North from where Bones revives you, in a small quarry just east of the rear exit from the Skull Cave.
5. Fog Island - In the ship graveyard in the bow of the ship, you need Monkey Trainer to get it.
6. Kila - Right hand corner of the wall with the gate to the other side of Kila, near the cave and teleport.
7. Tacarigua - Up on top of a cliff which you use lantana vines to climb, where you retrieve Osorio's' Purse from.
8. Tacarigua - In Polly's Daddies cave (see cheats to access this without meeting polly, eg: before chapter 3)
9. Taranis - Base of the southwest lightning tower.
10. The Isle of Thieves - To the left of where your ship moores, there's a Leviathon guarding it.

 

 

Hunters Root (Ranged): 10x Locations

1. Crab Coast - The Skull Cave on the right hand bend that overlooks the portal.
2. Calador - Near the Hunters shack just near the fire (north west on the map near teleport, the hunter trains in animal parts).
3. Calador - Hill behind hunters shack on left hand side of tree (there's a big spider, teleport stone on a rock, spirit mushroom in front of the tree).
4. Calador - Near pillar where round outdoor table in clearing (golem near by) north of the Farm where Fenn is.
5. Fog Island - North east up in the ruins where you find 2 Golems and a chest.
6. Kila - When you reach the water hole head to your left, at the 2nd small puddle (native in first puddle, aligator in 2nd puddle) turn right up a small dead end path, it's on the first left hand bend.
7. Kila (see cheats to access this before chapter 3) - At ground level of the map in one of the puddles (there's an aligator and golem near by).
8. Kila (see cheats to access this before chapter 3) - On the left of the map on a low plateau where one of the giant spider warriors are.
9. Tacarigua - Near the 2 graves on the edge of the Swamp Shadowlands (closest to where your ship moores).
10. Taranis - In the cave on west side of map, just before crossing the chasm to get the Bone Grinder sword for the Demon hunter.

 

 

Shadow Fire (Cunning): 11x Locations

1. Antigua - On your left as you approah the Skull Cave up on the ledge you can climb up.
2. Antigua - Beside the Teleport up near the Skull Cave.
3. Calador - Near round outdoor table in clearing (Crystal Golem near by) north of the Farm where Fenn is.
4. Kila - Heading to the water hole, stick to the right hand side there's a small incline with a gorilla guarding it (just before the Firebird eggs).
5. Kila - Mid West of the map there is free standing plateau with a chest and 2 spiders, requires Parrot Flight to access it. (Chapter 3 area, cheat anytime to get there before hand).
6. Fog Island - In the center of the stonehenge, sitting on top of the centerpiece rock.
7. Fog Island - Mid south of the map, given by Domingo after asking him why he joined the inquisition, select the "Makes Sense" dialogue option.
8. Tacarigua - In the Skull Cave on the right in a small pocket as you approach the Portal (Golem Guarding it).
9. Taranis - Southwest on the map in the Shadowlands beside Shax's chest where you fight the Shadow Lord of Betrayal.
10. Taranis - Just on the left as you approach the entrance to the Skull Cave (Chapter 3 area, cheat anytime to get there before hand).

11. The Isle of Thieves - East side of the map, on small island in the center.

 

 

Soul Lichen (Magic): 10x Locations

1. Antigua - Left bank near the Skull Cave entrance.
2. Calador - On the roof of the tavern.
3. Fog Island - Sitting on top of a Stonehenge pillar in the center of the map (aquire it with Parrot Flight or Mages Wind Hand or Demon Hunters Mental Grasp).
4. Kila - Inside the long and winding spider cave than can be entered straight east from the pirate's beach.
5. Tacarigua - In a goblin cave to the southeast of the skull cave.
6. Taranis - Behind Talbot's and Paula's house in the mage's camp.
7. Taranis - Sitting on the windowsill Rumold's warehouse at the harbor (aquire it with Parrot Flight or Mages Wind Hand or Demon Hunters Mental Grasp).
8. Taranis - In one of the alchemist's pots in the basement of the mage's camp.
9. Kila - Next to the Crystal Portal inside Margoloth's cave (Requires you to defeat Margoloth, you don't need to be in a faction to do this).
10. Kila - When exiting Margoloth's inner chamber, keep to the right until you enter another subcave and not far from this entrance you will find it to the right (Requires you to defeat Margoloth, you don't need to be in a faction to do this).

 

 

Swordthorn (Melee): 10x Locations

1. Antigua - Beside chest in the Shadowlands, diagonally southwest from the skull cave entrance.
2. Calador - Southwest from the Shadowlands, across the fallen log, up the stairs of the small partial ruins (Crystal Golem guarding the path)
3. Calador - Southwest main ruins in the tower closest to the Teleport (requires parrot flight to access it).
4. Kila - On the southeastern coastline of the island, straight east of the pirate's beach on the other side of the mountain range.

5. Kila - Directly North from Native Village Teleporter or West from footbridge into village, on ledge down below. Walk up curved coconut tree and jump on ledge.

6. Fog Island - On the Northwestern highest peak overlooking the ocean, If you look east while there you can see the ship graveyard.
7. Tacarigua - In Vasco's Tower where you find Governor Di Fuego's corpse, behind the angled cupboard, requires Monkey Trainer to access it.
8. Taranis - Jump in the well just infront of the great hall of the mage's camp, you'll see it as your swimming out of the well.
9. Taranis - South mid of the map next to the chest that a swamp golem is guarding. (Second quest from Walker who's camp was looted by goblins leads you here).
10. The Isle of Thieves - South mid of the map where Gabu is (Gnome Eater quest giver), on the side of the hill that has a claw monkey, chest and campfire on top of the hill.

 

 

Thief's Herb (Dexterity): 10x Locations

1. Antigua - Just outside north of Donovan's room (He's the dead gunsmith lying outside his door when you first enter the town square).
2. Crab Coast - In the beginning stretch on the path up to th top of the mound on the small island near where your ship moores.
3. Calador - in small rounded water quarry north of the tavern on the way to the now abandoned farm where Fenn is (Guarded by some of termites).
4. Calador - South West at Edmond's ancestors plot of land (Where Edmond leads you to looking for his ancestors heritage).
5. Kila - In the corner in front of the statue near teleport after the gate. (Chapter 3 area or cheat to the area anytime)
6. Tacarigua - On ledge in a small spiders cave north of the sugar platation hut.
7. Tacarigua - In the Shadowlands Swamp, straight up the hill past Rosco sitting near the fire, it's just before the ledge to head down to the Shadow Lord.
8. Taranis - South mid bottom Lightning Monolith.
9. Taranis - Basement of mages building where Nergal the alchemist is, growing in one of his pots.
10. The Isle of Thieves - Southeast corner of the map where 2 Leviathons are, to the east of them up on a climable ledge.

 

 

Tree Strangler (Influence): 10x Locations

1. Antigua - Skull Cave on the left hand ledge beside the waterfall on the last stretch to the Shadow Portal.
2. Crab Coast - In the Temple in the room that the floor caves into after walking over it the 2nd time.
3. Calador - In the northwest ruins where the Shadow Lord of Cowardice is.
4. Calador - On the left side the Skull Cave entrance (on the east side of the lava, access it by cheat before hand anytime)
5. Kila - South of the large gate wall, up the grassy slope, behind 3 claw monkeys guarding it.
6. Kila - Beside chest On narrow ledge over the side of plateau, the plateau has 3 dead native warriors and 2 Golems (Chapter 3 area, access it anytime by cheats).
7. Tacarigua - North of the lighthouse, as you approach the Golem guarding a chest head up the incline on the left with 2 Hellhounds guarding it.
8. Taranis - West from harbor just past the guard Barker, on the right is a climable ledge which leads to a chest with the plant near by.
9. Taranis - West side of the map near the cave at the Demon Hunters camp, beside his bed (Demon gives a quest to get the Bone Grinder sword from the cave).
10. The Isle of Thieves - Southwest in a cave that runs from the west shore to to south mid of the map near the goblins camp.

 

 

Permanent Skill Boost Potions Without Crafting (no faction required):
Essence of Persuasion (Influence +5) - Calador directly southeast of the Citadel, on the western side of the lava flow. It is guarded by a lava golem.

Soul Potion (Magic +5) - Fog Island after completing the quest to find out the story behind the Soul Eaters (Choose teach me your magic dialogue option).
Tincture of Toughness (Toughness +5) - Tarnis after completing the side quest for Nergal (mage Alchamist to find 5x Tarnis Herbs).

 

Temporary Potion Recipe Locations:

Recipe for a Potion of Awe (Intimidate)

1. Calador - Loot Moe the bully at entrance of tavern unconscious body (The fight must be non-dialogue initiated in order to loot him).
2. Taranis - In a locked chest (10 lockpick) on the top floor of the shipwreck in the shadowlands (chest also contains the best Statted Helmet in the game).

Recipe for a Potion of Blades (Piercing Weapons, Slashing Weapons, Swords)

1. Calador - In a locked chest (90 lockpick) in tower, southwest from the Shadowlands, across the fallen log, vere left down stairs before golem, follow on to the tower.
2. Taranis - Loot Magnus unconscious body (The fight must be non-dialogue initiated in order to loot him).

Recipe for a Defence Potion (Bladeproof, Bulletproof, Resist Magic)

1. Antigua - Buy it from Ramon the guardian on the beach when your first arrive on the island.
2. Antigua - In a locked chest (50 lockpick) in the shadowlands with Swordthorn next to it. The chest is diagonally southwest from the skull cave entrance.
3. Calador - In a locked chest (70 lockpick) northeast of the Tavern in Iron Mine near Alvito's dead body.

Recipe for a Potion of Magic (Crystal Magic, Rune Magic, Voodoo Magic)

1. Antigua - Buy it from Emma the voodoo merchant on the eastern part of town. (She must be rescued first).
2. Kila - Buy it from Bahati the voodoo merchant at the northeastern section of the native's village.
3. Taranis - Pickpocket (70 pickpocket) it from Safi the booze brewing gnome in the harbor.

Recipe for a Marksman's Potion (Muskets, Shotguns)

1. Tacarigua - In a locked chest (60 lockpick) Puerto Sacarico in main building ground floor, room on right, 2 chest in room, chest furtherest from the door.

Recipe for a Potion of Persuasion (Silver Tongue)

1. Kila - Buy it from Leonardo the guardian on the small island where Patty is on.
2. Kila - In a locked chest (60 lockpick) on narrow ledge over the side of plateau, the plateau has 3 dead native warriors and 2 Golems (Chapter 3 area, access it anytime by cheats).
3. Taranis - Loot Ali's unconscious body. (Gnome in the mage's camp who wants to become a guardian. The fight must be non-dialogue initiated in order to loot him).

Recipe for a Ritual Potion (Alchemy)

1. Calador - on the East side across the lava, in the ruined building on bench near the table that has the Nekroimortar spell (Chapter 3 area, cheat to the area anytime before hand).
2. Kila - Buy it from Bahati the vodoo merchant at the northeastern section of the native's village.

Recipe for a Potion of the Thief (Lock Picking, Pickpocketing, Critical Hit)

1. Tacarigua - Loot Vasco the deserting inquisition soldier when he's dead.
2. Taranis - In a locked chest (70 lockpick) right outside of the house that is between the two mines southwest of the mage's camp.

Recipe for a Potion of Will (Alchemy, Astral Vision)

1. Antigua - Buy it from Emma the voodoo merchant on the eastern part of town (She must be rescued first).
2. Calador - Loot Mick's unconscious body (Patron in the tavern)

3. Tacarigua - In chest (20 Lockpick) in Shadowlands Swamp beside 2 graves closest to where your ship moores..

 

 

 

Bone Saw (no faction required):
Another rare thing to aquire with little effort is the Bone Saw as it'll save you spending 1500 gold to be trained to take Claws and Horns from dead creatures.
I've only found them in 3 places so far.
1. Calador - Given by Conor the Demon Hunter when giving him quartz, I think it comes in one of the reward packages he gives you.

(Requires you to be in the Demon Hunter Faction. I'm unsure if other factions offer it as a reward as I've only played the Demon Hunter faction so far.)

 

2. Kila - Up on the little u shaped ledge in Chani's hut (Chapter 3 area, cheat to there anytime before hand).

 

3. Fog Island - up in the ruins, it's just sitting there waiting to be picked up anytime.
You can guess the one I'll go for huh? Option 3 (since I start the game getting Freddies Shackle's and I'm already at Fog Island) :smile:

Fog Island Bone Saw Location:
As you heading into the ruins on your right there is a Spider Cave, just after the spider cave there is a jutting out bit of ruins with a small walkway.
On the walkway there is a dilapidated shelf with the bone saw and some other goodies.
Easiest way up there is Parrot Flight.

(Can also be gotten to on foot with a hop skip and jump when approached from the correct angle, or use a monkey to do the same)

Kila Bone Saw Location:
Head to Chani's hut using Parrot Flight and land on the little u shaped ledge in her roof

Filthy Immersion Breaking Bug which affects the Enhanced Edition x64 of the game (Still unfixed over a year plus later):
Muskets and Shotguns will crash the game when fired directly at certain types of water (eg: Missed the target in the water and you directly shoot the water).
So when around waterfalls, springs, canals, streams, ponds and rivers always avoid targeting creatures by directly firing at water.
When in water always fire at creatures above the water line and away from the water.
Best advice save regularly when battling near water with Muskets and Shotguns.

Nice guide, - thanks, - but East Side of Lava (Calador) does not work on Windows 7 x64 with the Gog version, nor does Polly's Cave (Ticarigua), Beyond The Gate, or Head Mage Skull Cave. - These have been checked with both an XBox gamepad and using the keyboard. Limited clipping is present with the East Side of Lava location, but not at any of the others. The immersion breaking bug also appears to have been fixed in the Gog version.

Must be something your doing on your end.

I purchased the latest GOG version while it was on sale not that long ago.

Everything I posted above still works the same in GOG version.

First thing I did after install was go to all the places I mentioned above and all work fine in Win7 x64 and Win 8.1.
