Magic vs. Bows

They're are also spells that poison, paralyze , put people to sleep, damage attributes and do much more you know.

Yes, and as said, those reduce your amount of magic available, so aren't too practical in the long run. They also require increasing of the related spell skills, while poisons can be bought, looted, or made with only one skill.

Archery + Alchemy is awesome... I have really cool poison combo's I make like my "mage burner"... silence+damage health+damage magic+fire damage. The various combined damage effects you can make are heaps of fun. Even simple damage-health poisons are awesome and much better than the ones you can buy... they just keep on hurting long after they hit and they combine their effects... pop someone with one or two poisoned arrows from a distance and even if they aren't aren't dead by the time they reach you, just keep running away until they are.

The biggest problem I've found is advancing your archery skill... if you kill everything with one shot you don't get much practice.

Yeah, did that once.. Raised the difficulty and now i play with that and find it much better, gives some practice with melee aswell (bosses, can't take them down before they reach me, but it is fine as i have blade as major aswell)

Personally, I prefer magic, for this simple reason:

My favorite spell:

Skill Requirement: Journeymen Destruction

Magicka Cost: 135

Effects: Drain Endurance+Health 100 for 1 second in 13 AoE.

Actual Effect: I kill a group of enemies for 1/3rd my mana pool.

Poisons can duplicate the effects of the most useful spells, from a variety of schools, but require one skill, and can be sold if you have a surplus.
