Glossy retextures?

I've been recoloring a few things (the minuteman outfit is my current project) and for some reason all of them keep getting this high polish, almost latex like finish to them? Anyone got any ideas on what I'm missing? Cause clearly I'm missing something.

EDIT: This is what I'm talking about. I got the same thing going on on the faded visor I tried to spiffy up (except it doesn't look completely awful on it so I don't mind too much :p)

If it was another mod causing it wouldn't that have shown up before I started tinkering with the colors though? Cause it's only the items I personally have messed with that gets this glossy finish to them, which leads me to believe it's me who has no clue what I'm doing that's the issue... is there any good tutorials or rules of thumb on how to edit spec maps (I assume they're the ones named _s)? Cause the guides I've been using haven't really said much of anything about how to edit spec maps.

The spec map is reliant on color channels now. Green channel is blank, Red Channel is Gloss and Blue Channel is Specular. I may have the other two switched around but that's what's happening. If someone could correct me on which is which that would be helpful.

^This is indeed backwards. Blue should be black, red is gloss, and green is spec.

There isn't a lot of documentation yet but for clothing like this you want the spec maps to be fairly dark, especially the green channel.
