New Vegas modding help thread (calling all experts)

Hi guys,

 

First of all I can say that my game is fairly stable; this is by far the most successful Bethesda game modding attempt I've done, and believe me I've tried many times between FNV & ESS. The purpose of this post is to get expert opinions on my load order, how to solve problems, performance optimizations (if possible); and clarifications on modder made compatibility patches, merged patches, and bashed patches. Attached are what I believe to be all relevant info about my setup in relation to the questions I'm going to ask.

 

1. I've used Loot to do my load order, the only thing I've changed is I've dragged my merged patch to the bottom (I've attempted to do the load after thing in Loot for my merged patch but was unsuccessful): Does anyone detect problems with my load order? Has anyone been successful getting Loot to acknowledge user made load order commands when it sorts?

 

2. I've used Fnvedit to make a merged patch. I know you're not supposed to use a merged and a bashed patch together, does the same apply for modder made compatibility patches? If they are indeed all mutually exclusive which do you use? Or which combination do you use (eg. merged patch & compatibility patches vs. bashed patch and compatibility patches): I noticed my merged patch didn't manage to make all the entries in all the categories green, so I'm wondering if a bashed patch is superior. Also I noticed the second time I made a merged patch the fields ended up being different. I attempted to start the game using the new merged patch to see if things improved but I got the 'game is reliant on files that are no longer present' msg so I didn't proceed, and reverted back to the first merged patch. I know you aren't supposed to remove mods once you start a game, does the same apply for bashed and merged patches?

 

3. Blocky lighting bug: I'm pretty sure this is just how Electro city mod is and can't be rectified, true?

 

4. Rubber band texture bug: I get this weird glitch rarely, it's like the texture drags into this stretchy block that points off into the distance. I used optimizer textures and am wondering if that could be the reason for this.

 

5. Crashes: This can happen every two hours or so, but sometimes sooner. So far it has only crashed on loading screens which I am grateful for. Not too sure if this could be fixed by a different load order or different usage of bashed/merged patches.

 

6. Melee hot key mod doesn't detect a lot of melee weapons: Pretty sure this is just a deficiency with the mod, if anyone has advice I'd appreciate.

 

7. Performance issues: I get small freezes sometimes, especially when changing directions or loading new land to see while travelling, also sometimes my fps drops into the 30's. I'm pretty sure this is just the best the game to do with it's dated engine and all the mods I'm running, any advice would be appreciated though.

 

8. Sturdy caravan shotgun has a big space that's blank in the model in first person view: Pretty sure this is just an issue with the weapon model and the fact I altered my FOV.

 

9. Dirty edits in FNVedit: Does anybody actually clean these? If so what's the benefit? If cleaned would you have to recreate the merged or bashed patch?

 

10. Load order and merged/bashed patches: Do either of these have to be recreated if you change your load order?

 

11. CPU tweaks: As far as I can tell, messing with any of these in the ini files only serve to make your game unstable.

 

Sorry for all the questions and if anyone is willing to lend a helping hand I would truly appreciate.
