Are mods causing this issue, or console, or..? (Terminals bug)

Hi all,

I have recently ran into a bug that is getting to be an issue on my current play through, that I wasnt getting before.. I have been using mods + the console for awhile now without issues that I could see, so, I am curious if this is just a save game degradation from console abuse (and possible accidental misuse some how), mods, a combination, or something fixable...

Lately I have been finding terminals that when I bring them up, they only display the top bar of info, and thats it. Nothing else. Now so far none of them have been game impeding, but, it sucks not being able to read the lore items, and now that its been more than 1 in a small stretch of time, I know its not just a coincidence. But, whats suddenly causing this?

As for specific mods, well, I use quite a few. Ive been using homemaker, almost all of DDProductions, Armorsmith expanded.. spring cleaning... the most recent additions that I can think of off hand, were the R91, AK2047, N7 standalone, and the latest version of OCDecorator. I can't recall adding or updating any others off the top of my head... but I fail to see how any of these would cause this issue?

Has anyone encountered this issue at all, and if so, did you find a fix or what was causing it? Any ideas at all? I know this is kind of a wide net of a problem, as it could be linked to a few different things. I am going to leave a save near a terminal that is bugged, and try disabling mods to see if it starts working again, but thought I would ask in advance. (esp since the save file damage may already be done)

I suppose its also possible its just a bug in the game itself, I saw where 1 person had the same issue on one of the 2 same terminals, I just found it odd I found 2 terminals in a relatively short period of time of eachother, where as I found none earlier on.

Also, if this topic needs moved, by all means. I placed it here as it is mod related, I probably shouldve done mod support I guess, but its not really a specific mod issue? Either way... my apologies, as I think it may be in the wrong-ish area.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've had this issue happen to me in the past, under these conditions: 3 terminals placed at Warwick Settlement, no mods whatsoever (currently I have 90 running, but I experienced this very same problem while building this settlement using only the vanilla construction pieces when I first purchased the game). I think it has something to do with having multiple terminals hooked up to the same power grid. I remember being able to either disconnect/re-connect (or simply delete/replace) the terminal that I wanted to actually function, which in turn would cause the other 2 to stop functioning (as you described above; you can access the terminal itself, albeit with no menu to choose options from). I'm not sure if having terminals on separate power grids will still have this same issue, so I'll give that a shot when I get home from work and report back here.

For the time being though, I would check and see if you have multiple terminals connected in a settlement. I removed the 2 additional terminals from my Warwick settlement, and the remaining one (which also happens to be the first and original one that I placed at this settlement) functions perfectly fine, and that's taking into consideration that I've amassed at least 200 hours in-game since originally encountering/fixing this issue, and as mentioned previously, I'm currently running about 90 mods (Alt Set, Homemaker, SSEx, OCDec, Insulated Conduits, Snap-n-Build GH, and a few other mods that directly affect the settlement workshop and its items/menus).

I haven't ran into further issues since I posted this awhile back, I am pretty certain that the 2 terminals in question are broken in the vanilla game, or, at worst, were somehow broke by my console usage, but seem to be limited to those 2.

For me this issue was on terminals already placed in the world, not ones I could construct, too. I think they are just bugged though. (Bobbi Nose's terminal is an example of one that was known to be bugged, before they fixed it). I have been meaning to check them w/o mods and on a fresh start, but haven't gotten around to it since they are out in the world a ways (Still remember where, though.)

Anyway, I appreciate the reply and feedback! It is interesting to note the issue you had w/ the same terminals on the same grid, and certainly will keep it in mind if I encounter the same in the future! :)
