After Quest Scripting

Hey guys, just getting into modding. So far so good, read a bunch of tutorials learned how to place stuff in game, make characters all the easy stuff. Now I'm moving on to Scripting. I wanted to accomplish something simple to boost my confidence so what I wanna do is simply this:

 

I want to be able to make an NPC do something different than what the game originally coded them to do after a questline with them has been completed (so it doesn't conflict). For example. After Superhuman Gambit is completed the Mechanist leaves and goes somewhere I don't know never bothered to follow him.

 

So Instead of him just leaving I wanna rewrite that part of the code to allow him to instead just sandbox in his room or something. Simple I know but it will get me used to where to go to do things, and how to do edit scripts already written. Thanks guys.
