The Roleplaying Dilemma. RP or thoroughly play TW3?

Recommended Posts

So I'm of the opinion that this is the best game I've ever played. I'm a huge fan of the book series and the games have gotten better and better from one two and three. This is irrelevant to this thread however.

I'm finding it difficult to play through this game in a role-playing capacity cause I also want to exhaust everything it has to offer. The story is fantastic and engrossing, and it's difficult to justify doing any contracts or side quests when you feel the draw of chasing the main quest for obvious character reasons.

This is my only criticism of the game, but it's mainly because I enjoy it so much and try to immerse myself in it (which is only possible with a game as detailed and well rounded as this one). Basically, I find it unrealistic that when Hot on the trail of finding

Ciri

you decide to first help these 12 separate villagers in the area and 10 contracts.

So what I'm wondering is.....

Does the game allow you to keep playing after the MQ so you can explore and try to complete everything else?

Also, can you play after the MQ as above (questing and contracting) and then move onto the heart of stone DLC etc. whenever you want?

Thanks for reading everybody, and a huge thanks to CD ProjectRed for making this amazing game!

To answer your main question, yes, you can do SOME of the side quests after you beat the game, but not all. Any secondary quest offered to you by a main character (Yennefer, Dandelion, Zoltan, etc) cannot be done after you beat the main story, but they often affect the outcome of the main story. Random miscellaneous quests and contracts can be completed after the main quest is completed.

I'm hoping I didn't really spoil anything in my answer, as it seems you have yet to beat the game. The worst thing about this is that the in game quest journal makes no distinction between the important secondary quests, and the otherwise random side quests. The Prima game guide does this however.

sorry about that, forgot that one. Yes, you can play HoS whenever you want (although the level requirements are quite high). Aside from one quest within HoS where you are forcibly moved for a limited time, you are free to bounce back and forth between the main quest and the HoS quests and side quests. HoS primarily takes place in an expanded section of the Novigrad area, which is still connected to the main area.
