Modding noob, problems with skyrim creation kit

People who are well-versed in the creation kit...I could use some help.

I'm trying to do something pretty simple; make a dog follower. I was following a tutorial on youtube, and everything was going fine at first, but then I hit a snag when the part came to add dialog. The creation kit simply won't let me edit anything. If I try to make a new dialog, after I select the audio the response uses and hit OK, the CK always crashes. If I try to copy an existing one and then edit it, adding a new condition or editing one just causes all the conditions to disappear, and the CK doesn't save my changes, and sometimes I can't hit OK or cancel and I have to force close it.

I tried googling this problem but got no solutions. I'm hoping someone who knows a lot about the CK can help me because I really don't know what to do. I spent hours trying to make this stupid follower.
