Fallout Character Overhaul Will Not Work (I've Tried A LOT of "Fixes")

If its not one thing its another thing. I guess we'll call it 'learning'.

Having solved all my other problems I am trying to reintroduce character mods so I can begin a new play through. In going to do so I noticed that there was a far improved version of the FCO available so I downloaded that and all its extensions. However I cannot get it to install properly even after extensive research of similar problems. I have learned to use FOMM as recommended to install it and its extensions rather than NMM; I've made sure archive invalidation was on; I've tested on new and varied saves; I've tried out a plethora of recommended load orders including the mod authors' so as not for other npc mods to interfere; I've fixed the issue of the FNV NMM FOMM pathways being marked as read only; I have tried jump start saves with making a save turning off the mod, loading and closing than turning it back on. I've re-downloaded the files and tried again and every time all the the files are missing and the Red Diamonds with Exclamation Points are in the place of all peoples' heads.

I have no other big head or face mods active (One small one reworking the bandage movement on Joshua Grahmm is all Ive got active besides.

About one of the only things I have not tried is full direct manual install

because I don't know how to do that properly and I don't want to risk corrupting my base game.

P.S. The testing saves for other mods I've made without the FCO mod have no problems.

There's no base game corruption or any corruption in textures in the other active mods mods .

P.S.S. I was aside hoping that Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 3 could be made to work as well. (The author's varied avenues of attack yielded no results)

Have you already tried using NMM?

If you're getting mesh/texture issues, open your mod manager's mod directory (where the mod archives are kept before installing) and open the FCO file with WinRar or 7zip. I think the art files are in the Main folder, so open that, and compare it with the same folders in your Data folder. If they aren't in the right place, put them there and archive invalidate again. If they already are in the right place, I really don't know what to tell you.

If you're using FCO 3.0 or have the author's standalone hair or teeth textures already installed, check those folders as well (Teeth will have two folders for the two options; only use one)

FCO 3.0 will have the hair and teeth textures in appropriately named folders in the same archive as its other files.

For the most part NMM is the only manager I've used although I have used FOMM for installing ojo bueno textures and organizing/saving load orders.

I tried what you have said and opening the FCO files in winrar/7zip reveals only text files:

  • Folder: Fallout Character Overhaul => Folder: FOMOD => Info.xml => Just a description of the mod
  • cacheinfo.txt [which reads as]: False@@Fallout Character Overhaul 3.0\@@fomod\script.cs@@C# Script

Those and nothing else. This is after reading what you said here, re downloading FCO and opening. There's nothing here I can find to compare to the base game data.

In a few minutes, I will give you instructions you need to follow, you need 7z installed for your OS.

when I have inspected the FOMOD file, I'll come back with instructions.

I downloaded it another time and checked it. Everything was in place and I made an install with FOMM. It was successful in all its dimensions and almost without problems. I say almost because unusually I clip (I think that's the correct word) partially into walls in some places, so I don't know what that's about.

It's about object being displaced in the master file

That happens when you edit out certain data in master files
