Hi me again :D

Anyway i started work on a custom music pack for oblivion, as you see i am a big zelda fan so i going for a all zelda music theme. Anyway i changed all the music now so i got the basic public, town, explore and dungeon.

Anyway i want to expand it a bit more so i need some advice:

For example in the explore folder there is currently 9 song spaces. Going atmosphere_01, atmosphere_02 etc going to 9. Would it be okay if i simply added like atmosphere_10 etc. Just i a bit worrid with experimenting coz i heard messing around with the music folder too much can damage oblivion.

Another thing is, in zelda for example you can like go into a town and u get say clock towns music and then u go into a shop and u will get the shop music. IS it possible to create a SHop file, insert some songs in and then change the shop cells to that type of music?????

Any advice will be much appreiceated :D

You can add as many songs as you want to a given folder, and it doesn't make a difference what you name them in my experience as long as they're mp3. You want to be careful about the Zelda stuff, though - don't get caught violating a copyright by transferring material from one game to another.

As for the other thing, I don't think so, but I don't know enough to say it's totally impossible. I think people have succeeded in streaming music for individual cells, but not creating new folders and categories.

Like Sickle said, impossible to add a new type of music, but if you want you could write a script that plays a certain file in shops, then just copy it through (the script would be attached to an item that you can place). And its not a copyright infrigment to put zelda music in the oblivion folder, whats illegal is distributing it to other people, unless of course they own the game you got the music from. Then again, you would have either recorded the zelda stuff with a mic, or you found it free on the web. if it was free then its legall.

At any rate, support for new music is very limited, you can only have it play normally from those 4 folders that already exist, and it will always select randomly from that list. While you can use a script to play music, the usage for it is very limited and really doesn't work well at all. It doesn't interupt the currently played track, can only work if the cell is set to be using a certain music type, battle cancels it, and when the song finishes it goes right back to playing from the usual list. You might be able to get it to work to set a (one)specific music for a whole town, but even then it probably wouldn't work too well.

As for using music from anything that isn't public domain, it can only be done for personal use if you personally own the source, or the rights to private usage. While you can get permission from unknown, or unpublished artists, typically unless the source states that the music can be used freely, you cannot distribute it. Zelda music, no matter what, would be owned by Nintendo, and would not be free to distribute to anyone, asking in this case would likely cause their legal team to get on your case since this music was probably not provided directly from an authorized soundtrack.
