Anyone ever had this problem?

Bethsoft's customer support sucks, so I thought I might try my luck here.

For a while, I had Oblivion, Knights of the Nine, and the Shivering Isles installed on my computer. A couple of days ago, I decided I was going to reinstall everything. I ran Oblivion's uninstaller, deleted the folder in my program files, and also went through the registry and deleted every key associated with Oblivion. So, I installed Oblivion fine. Knights of the Nine and the 1.1 patch worked fine. When I put in the Shivering Isles DVD, the setup executable wouldn't run. It still won't. I don't have anything running in the background, yet I still get a message saying, "setup.exe has encountered a problem and must close."

It is the SECUROM copy protection that they used on the SI cd - if you have any virtual drives or disc duplication software installed on your system it will not install properly on some systems !! There are a few things that you can try that will usually get it to work :

1.) go to my computer - right click on the CD\DVD drive - go to the recording tab - uncheck the box that says enable CD recording on this drive ( This will make Securom think it is just a reader and not a writer so it will pass the security check and the game will usually install ) After installing reset it to reenable the recorder !!

2.) If that does not work disable or uninstall any disk duplicating software (ie. ROXIO - NERO etc.) as Securom has a blacklist of certain apps that if found on the system it will not allow the install to run.

3.) If still unsucessful Download DAEMON tools and install - use a disk copy program to make an iso image of the disk on your HDD - load the image in Daemon with the SECUROM emulation enabled - run the install from the image !! (kind of ironic that the best way to get a legitimate copy of the game installed is to use one of the programs that they ( SECUROM) are trying to keep people from having since they believe everyone that uses it must be illegally using it !! - but this method will work )

I'm trying option 3. I use Daemon tools for another game I have, but I don't know how to make an image. I'm trying to use ISO Buster now, but it's just confusing me. Wait...ugh, I'm stupid. Okay, now I'll try to do it with an ISO writer instead of an extractor.

I made an ISO of the Shivering Isles. I Ran Daemon tools, turned Securom on in the emulation options, went to mount the image and got this:

"Conflict with Emulation Software Detected. http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=emu&c=2500"

Perhaps Securom got wise?

What version of Daemon are you using _ if it is a fairly old one then it may need to be updated as the emulations change from time to time !! I've got v 4.09he and it works fine for me with all emulations turned on !! ( I've used Daemon and .iso images for all my games for years now as the CD's and DVD's tend to get scratched easily and this way I can keep the originals tucked away for use only when there is a HDD problem - and as a side benefit those older games that get info from the CD/DVD during gameplay run smoother as the HDD access is much fastr than the CD\DVD drive !)

Hmmm...I'm running the same version of Daemon tools as you are. Maybe it's a problem with my ISO. What do you use to write your ISO's? I was using ISO Recorder.
