So overall, what is the best way to get the distant iew to work. While i would disdain the fact that i may need a 3d modeler, im afraid that is what i must do. Any suggestions before i contact machinesinmotion?

Before you do that... Try using just the same .nif for the static as the distant, depending on where this building is, and how complicated it is, it may not affect performance any. If it does, try removing the collision nodes on the _far version of the static. If that doesn't do it, explain what buildings you need, what usage they have (where they will be visible from), and I might even feel like taking a crack at it.

Ok, i made some far nifs for it and some of the objects are viewable when distant but others are not. i assume this is because i am using some interior archetecture such as gates and obelisks and the temple dome, ect which the modeler did not take into acount. would downloading VWD help any?

Just make sure that in the CS it's marked as visable when distant, and that there is a _far.nif for that model. Then update the LOD data, interior/exterior stuff wouldn't make any difference.

how do i update the lod data?

in the menubar.

World Testing > Update LOD Data

Select the worldspace, and be prepared for a long wait if you're doing anything within a large worldspace like Tamriel. Make sure your data\distantLOD folder is empty (copy anything in there that you want to keep and move it elsewhere for now) before starting as it doesn't ask to overwrite any files, and the whole worldspace is generated. Then look in the CS at what cell coordinates your changing, and all the files that aren't for those cells (lots). You could test before removing these files, but as the whole worldspace was generated, any large structures added by other mods which have vwd wouldn't be seen when distant.

After you're done testing, everything works, and have cleared out the excess files, you can again add any files that were in there before starting this mess. You will need to repeat this process any time you need to change anything involving those buildings, so you should really leave the LOD stuff as a final step.
