Music not playing correctly.

I got the game two weeks ago. Before I installed any mods, the radio worked fine. I added mods, then the radio stopped working. I deleted all mods, reinstalled NV, and the radio still didn't work. I can hear Mr. New Vegas talk, he saying what the next song is, but the song doesn't play. On the radio menu in the pip-boy, it shows there's sound on the frequency going, but I don't hear any. It seems to only be music files that do not play, and I don't understand why. I've looked at other posts, but nothing has helped. I tried doing the reinstall with the disk through Steam and checking for missing files, and all Steam tells me is one file is missing and will be added or whatever, but nothing was added yet? I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do to fix this, any help?

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your post, but I want to bump this thread because I'm experiencing the SAME exact problem and I can't figure it out either. I'm completely certain it's not a codec problem, and have also tried deleting/reinstalling the game but to no avail. I thought there were supposed to be 2 versions of the audio files (one for the radios in-game and the other for pipboy), but I can't remember why I'm thinking that, so it doesn't help much. I wanted to come back to this game for a fresh start though and this is preventing me from playing it.. funny part is, I'll get sick of hearing those same songs a million times anyway.. I just want it to be working properly.

In summary: BUMP, and PLEASE help :)

I don't know if you're still having the music problem but I had a similar issue myself a few weeks ago. When starting the game, I'd get the main menu screen ok but there was no background music playing. The same thing happened in-game. I had recently updated my video drivers (AMD) and I installed a codec pack that was offered by AMD. Well apparently Fallout NV just HATES any codecs other than the default ones that come packaged with Windows. Uninstalling the codecs didn't work since there were registry entries that needed to be reset. It just so happens that theres a utility on the Nexus that addresses this problem and you can find it here:

Problem solved, for me at least. I hope this helps you too.

I did give up for a while there, but decided to check this thread again and that program worked like a charm! Thank you very much for your reply, I appreciate it greatly.
