Losing disk space for no reason.

In order to get control of Shadow Copy you need to edit it's size running a console as an admin. Full procedure details can be found here (the procedure should be the same in 7). By default it's set to use 30% of free space or 15% of the volume. On a large drive, such as a 750 GB drive, this equals 112.5 GB by default. I manually set Shadow Copy to 8 GB and it is more than enough for Windows to function properly.

 

To see the file that Shadow Copy uses you can start in Safe Mode and look in the System Volume Information directory. You can do this to check if the above change worked.
