CTD Every few hours

Hey Forum. I've been annoyed recently by consistent CTD's after a few hours of playing FNV. All of my settings are at the maximum, and I play at 1680x1050 resolution. My computer handles the game incredibly well, and should because the specs are well above the requirements.

I am currently running the game on a fresh install of Windows (with proper updates and drivers for everything), and a newly reinstalled, patched and modded copy of the game. My system includes a Core i7 processor, 12gb DDR3 RAM, and a brand new Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2gb card. My load order is as follows:

FalloutNV.esm

DeadMoney.esm

IWS-Core.esm

ELECTRO-CITY - CompletedWorkorders.esm

ELECTRO-CITY - Highways and Byways.esm

Improved Sound FX.esp

Improved Sound FX - Gunshot Distance Tweak.esp

Improved Sound FX - Weapon Sharing Fix.esp

IWS-Core-Patrols.esp

IWS-Core-Guards.esp

IWS-Core-Civilians.esp

IWS-AS-MedSpawns.esp

IWS-AS-NoInteriorSpawns.esp

Tailor Maid - NV.esp

w44Satchels - Lite.esp

ShilohDS-Color Maps and Icons.esp

ParallaxRoadtrim.esp

Nevada Skies.esp

ELECTRO-CITY - Darker Nights.esp

Interior Lighting Overhaul-Realistic Interiors-Full.esp

monsterranch.esp

IWS-MonsterRanch.esp

ILO-RI-Dead Money.esp

Yes, I am running NVSE as well as a 4gb enabler (patched to work with NVSE). I use BOSS for FNV to sort my mods, and have confirmed that each mod (both manually installed and FOMODs) is installed properly.

The problem is that I've been having crashes to my desktop every 2-3 hours like clockwork. My system should not be having these problems should it? From what I can tell, everything is properly compatible, updated and can easily run with my hardware. Is there something I am missing? If not, could your recommend any utilities I might download in order to reduce the frequency of crashes I am experiencing?

Thanks for your help.

In the absence of any other advice from folk who may be able to put their finger on your problem.

Assuming that if you have the latest Steam patch installed from yesterday then you also have the updated NVSE to go with it

Assuming that the ctd occurs randomly and not in the same quest, place, action or item etc, the fact that you are encountering CTD after a couple of hours and not sooner suggests to me that it is not mod based.

Have you tested/monitored and ruled out the possibility of hardware faults (graphics card) or possible faults caused by software running in the background?

Check your system by running NV in vanilla and ensure there are no ctd's - real pain but I guess you need to be certain of this

To check mods I can only suggest:

Add mods one at a time and play long enough to check all is well or until you hit a snag

Ensure each mod is installed correctly with any compatabilty patches, FOMM BOSS (which you are doing) to check load order and archieve invalidation toggled.

Mods that change game weapon balance etc might be influenced by the new patch and need updating - do not know - needs verification.

You probably already know all this but hope it helps anyway

Yes I've updated both Steam and NVSE, and you are correct in assuming that the crash is not predictable. It seems to generally happen when a new cell is being loaded, but beyond that I cannot guess further. I am confident that it is no issue with my hardware, as it happened both before, and after I reformatted and re-installed my copy of Windows, as well as re-install all pertinent drivers for my hardware.

Additionally, I know that the crashes occurred prior to my buying a new graphics card as well as afterwards, both with mods and without (though slightly more frequently with mods).

Something else - For some reason my Nevada Skies mod hadn't been giving me any of the special weather effects up until today. I made no changes, but they finally seemed to kick in. This hasn't appeared to change the issue with CTD's, but I likely haven't played enough yet with it working to get an accurate picture. I will keep you informed and let you know if the crashes persist, their frequency, and the circumstances in which they occur.

Thanks for the help longprong. Hopefully I can figure this problem out soon.
