unforgivencarney
I'm relatively new to the modding community, and as such I'm probably going to be asking an extremely newbish question, however I did look around first. I downloaded FOMM for FMV and FM3, and it's working wonderfully. However when I went to download and install my mods: 005 Tactical SMG by FrankFamily, and the Thumper Auto Shotgun by LoStone1993, they don't work correctly. Instead of the weapon being there, a giant red square with an exclamation point is. I figure this must be a texture problem, however FOMM DID mention that they both needed a script to run that apparently I didnt have, which I told it to download. And still....nothing. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
unforgivencarney
Okay, check that, it actually says that it needs a script to work, then asks if I'd like to continue anyway. What script is it talking about, and where would I get it?
Skevitj
Some mods won't be packaged in a way where FOMM can understand what needs to be done to it to install correctly. That is when it will prompt you for an installation script. It's something the mod creator would have to produce, but it's rarely done meaning you should just install it manually, or change the archive such that FOMM knows what to do. IE, the archive contents should look like the mod will when installed. Just open up the archive and have a look at how it's packaged, as well as reading the installation instructions. If you follow the installation instructions, except into a temporary "Data" folder (ie just create a data folder on the desktop), and then zip the data folder up with the same name (not essential, but used to keep track of version) as the origional, FOMM will be able to convert and install it correctly. unforgivencarney
Okay, well that at least explains FOMM. And thank you for the much needed information, I will defiantly have to do that. Now, the main issue remains, however. I've installed them manually, doing the usual instructions (unzip into the \data\ folder of FMV, and still nada. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all of my mods twice now. Still the same big red box with a big white exclamation point. Looking through the forum archives, about six or seven pages back, I read something about that possibly being a missing texture, and as such to reset "archive invalidation"? Does that sound right at all? Now, I DID make sure to check if the mods themselves came with textures and meshes, and they did, so that defiantly wasn't the issue. For some reason, they just wont install right, or when I do install those two, it's only those two that have the issues.
longprong
unforgivencarney. You have a texture/mesh issue resulting from one of your mod installs. You can experiment with removing/reinstalling mods etc until you find the culprit and rectify the problem. If all else fails...this works http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4710 It enabled me to see exactly what was going on inside the big red box and yes it does work with NV Edited April 27, 2011 by longprong
Skevitj
The exclamation mark is a sign of a missing mesh, if a texture is missing the mesh appears in game, but with a placeholder texture, pink I think. If archive invalidation is needed, textures show up, but there will be multiple textured flickering around on an object. If that's the case, FOMM has a built in Archive Invalidation which you activate by putting selecting Tools (menu) -> Archive Invalidation (A tick should appear next to it if activated), no need to download a standalone one. If you open the console and select the exclamation marker in game you can see the name of the object, which should help to determine which mod it comes from. Otherwise, if you are using NVSE, select the exclamation mark then type getbaseobject and the first two numbers of the return value will give you the load number of the mod. You can then look at the mod list in FOMM and see exactly which one it is. The most likely problem is that you didn't unpack the mesh and texture folders correctly, and there might be a nested folder in the Data folder (ie, Data-> Meshes-> Meshes -> Armor->... etc, Instead of Data -> Meshes -> Armor->...). Or you tried to use FOMM to install a mod which has it's own custom folder structure and isn't able to just be copied across. Those are two points to look at first anyway, pretty much all of the problems I've had were caused by one of those two. There are some good tutorials on how to install mods, even if for Oblivion, the instructions haven't really changed for NV, they should help in identifying any problems and avoiding any future ones. longprong
Now Skevitj that is a very useful answer to the problem.I think you deserve Kudos for that. Thanks
Bond123
Now Skevitj that is a very useful answer to the problem.I think you deserve Kudos for that. Thanks  Double click FOMM and open the Tools menu. Toggle archiveinvalidation on. If it already has a check mark indicating it is active, toggle it off, then go back and toggle it back on. Anytime you install a mod with custom textures, you should do that toggle procedure.
