My Rants and Thanks

Hi, i am new here and just downloading many bug fix mods for DAO. My thanks for everyone who make these fixes. I am not English speaking, so i am sorry for my English

I have play DAO for 2 month and complete one play through, yup, only one play through for 2 month.

This game is totally crazy. At first it is fine, i play Human Noble origin, and i feel sentimental with the story that is when Elissa left the castle...and then become a Grey Warden....after that it is all crazy. I still remember the first time fighting the Orge and totally shock with the grab thing. Once got grabbed cannot escape, totally ruin my mood. I don't know about bash or something that can release the grab at that time. But in anyway, it is crazy you know. The first time i play a game that a boss can do something that the player can only watch.

Then i got beaten up in all corner in the game, fighting bandits in Lothering, wolves, dogs, peasants, crazy mages...get mobbed in Denerim...fighting tough monsters with no reward (Revenants). I realize that there is something wrong with this game. I know i am new to this game but i am not new with games, i play more than 50 games including similar game like KotOR. Dogs can beat up fully armored warrior with oversize weapons and mages as their companions is something i cannot accept. There are time going through in a place with a lot of traps and wolves making me wonder who place those traps? No wolves got trapped, the wolves place those traps?

The Fade is totally out of words to describe. Total imbalance and illogical and a waste of time. The Fade is a dream right? So how come we can use all physical items such as potions, health poultices, changing weapon and armor and when we wake up it is all changed as according to what happen in a DREAM....unless you have heart disease no one will die dreaming. For sure Grey Warden have no heart attack, but when die in a dream it is a game over. Mage Asunder is depressing, it is like it never being tested, the whole game is like never been tested actually. How come alone must face a lot of crazy mages that can kill in seconds??? What the game creator thinking??? It is easier if play as mage because can "cheat" by casting spell before enter the room, but what about non-mage? No matter what form, it is just luck to get past it, not strategy. So thanks to the one who make Skip the Fade mod. I don't want to play and wasting time in there. the fade is not necessary plot in my opinion.

After 2 month playing, now i realized i am playing bugs. No wonder it is all suck. For 2 month i don't know that i am playing with no critical chance (0%), feeding enemy with mana (Mana Cleanse bug), don't receive item effect (healing effect bug), don't get items (unobtainable item bug), skill not properly work (talent bug) and many more....wow, this game is really problematic. Most bugs are unacceptable. It is all not technical bug in my opinion but it is come from untested product. For 2 month i am playing a total f***ed up product. Sorry for bad word here, but i am totally mad.

So my thanks for all the modders here who fix the bugs, and you guys make it for free. Thanks, now i can play the game as the game should be. Although it is all not a surprise anymore but at least now i can enjoy it as it should be. Thanks again for clearing up some issue, now i know why my last play through and new games are all f***ed up. The game is interesting but these bugs destroy everything...

Thanks. :-)

Yeah...we all need a rant every now and then. :)

2 things about your post, though -

* How do non-mages deal with The Fade? Rogues use Stealth. If you've done it right you should have DEX over 25 and at least 2 ranks in Stealth (3 if you used books), so the mages won't see you coming. You can destroy one mage before the rest know you're there. Warriors...? Dunno. Never play them. ;)

* The Fade is a waste of time. Yes. Yes it is. There's a reason most of us use the Skip The Fade mod after a couple of run-throughs. ;)

Tactics are very important to fighting in this game. All the games I played before it was mostly brute force and training, this game it's brute force, tactics and control of your party. If you get the stuffing knocked out of you, change tactics and or change companions. What works well against one enemy won't work so well against another.

As for the fade, I love going into the fade and I don't find it pointless you do get experience points in fights and find hidden experience points and I enjoy the puzzle of how to find my way around and make sure I go absolutely everywhere and get everything. As for the crazy mages, tactics, tactics. On my first play through I often felt like I couldn't win, but I did.

I even had an epic fight with a boss which was discussed on here, I was so desperate to beat her I asked for a cheat, Darkwolf talked me out of the cheat and I decided on one last fight with her I won and I felt absolutely awesome, winning the fight was nothing to do with weapons and magic it was pure tactics in the game and my control of the party.

I started playing the game on normal, dropped it to easy then when easy became too easy I increased it to normal now I fight on hard, but even that is easy now I need to increase the difficulty again. Just for the record I don't use cheats and I don't use jacked up armour or weapons, I like to play with what the programmers gave me, I don't get any feeling of satisfaction from any kind of cheats.

I love to play as warrior, so i will have problem in the Fade. I can get pass those crazy mages, i did after several attempts. Mostly it is luck. Either i have to run away after open the door in Burning Man mode or run forward in a long run toward another room of mages. The first option the mage will follow me, and luck play its part, most of who follow me use cold magic and nature magic, so either knocked down or got freeze. If run forward, if fast enough can get past them if not then die.

I try all mode except Golem of course. If change into mouse they still can see me. If change to Spirit form, cool down to long for spells. Burning Man form is the most logical choice. But to keep changing form need few seconds animation, sometime dead while in changing attempt.

Oh, what i mean is crazy mages in the room next to burning fade spirit room. The mages before is hard too, but some of them fighting each other so can run and wait they got killed themselves.

After all that have to fight golems and strong priests....and in other realms with dark spawns....health poultice all used up, some places have no lyrium vein like in the room we get Spirit form. The hurlock emisery there will cast curse of immortality...

So the Fade is a waste of time and not fun for me. Imbalance. I can get pass it easily as mage, i have one play through as mage but i don't finish the game as mage because i don't have the right feeling..."Grey Warden Mage"...seems like not fitting. And mage story line is not interesting.

I don't really like rogue, but rogue is okay...just rogue have too much restriction and complicated.

Use the Skip The Fade mod I linked above.

You only have to complete four parts in the Fade when that mod is installed: three scenarios for your companions and the final Boss battle.

The mod awards all XP and bonusses as if you'd completed The Fade manually - and takes a couple of hours less time. ;)
