Think I found a temp work around. My problem started around the time of the update before this last one. Also the about the time I bought Dead Money. Yes this seams to be it. I moved all Dead Money files out of my Game folder and my head stoped blowing up.

haha maybe u should try reinstalling dead money? delete it, make a clean save, then install it again and check if this is caused by some mod thats contradicting with dead money. try playing the vanilla game with dead money without any other mods and see if ur head is exploding, if it isnt try turning all ur mods one by one until ur head starts exploding again :)

Already tryed all that save redownloading dead money. Maybe dead money is layed over the new vegas wastland map just like the trouble many of us had with nav. and nave marker direction in the center of the map in fo3 after the brotherhood of steel DLC was added. There may be some holes were the speakers are leaking in. I found some areas that no mater how long I wait when I try to pass them kaboom my head Pops almost every time. I will be doing some more research on this mater and hope to come up with a fix soon. I hope.

I have the same problem but I don't even have Dead Money, is really frustrating especially since I been having that problem for a while. Every time I made a new character and played for 2 to 3 hours with it pop! and I had to do everything again... But since last time it happens more often even if I fast travel or load the game the character head pops.

Yup, same problem here but it got much much worse after the latest update. After a while, it was actually funny to watch but it got old real quick. Maybe if the head of one of the game dev's should pop, Obsidian will come up with a patch real quick.

Adding my two cents:

Have spent ~19 hrs on my second NV playthrough and only encountered this problem after entering the Poseiden Gas Station just Sth of New Vegas/ Violetta and Violets trailer park. As I had until then stayed well Sth of New Vegas, I had not encountered the problem.

Initially thought it was a conflicting mod that I just installed but the problem remains even after un-installing said mod and reloading from a pre-mod save. Despite not having started Dead Money for the 2nd playthrough, using the console to player.removeitem "XXXXX" dead money collar doesn't fix the problem. I wonder if there is a specific code for the dead money exploding head effect and whether it can be turned off using the console.

Otherwise, a very, very annoying problem.

For me, the problem has been around since I made the mistake of getting Dead Money. At that time, I was around Novac and thats the first time I saw the glitch so I don't think staying South of Vegas is the issue. The other night, I was in Ranger Station Foxtrot and I couldn't take 5 steps before "boom". I should have made a video of it and posted it on YouTube. Anyway, I mapped out to Goodsprings and when I mapped back in, it seems the problem was reset. I ran around the ranger station after that and my head stayed where it should be. I think I'm going back to FO3 since that game, despite its drawbacks, was way more stable than FONV.

@ SuperSledgeNY

I've had the DM DLC for a little while (bought it shortly after it was released) and never come across this problem with my first playthrough. Only after ~20hrs of play with the second. I still suspect it may be a mod problem and am going to de-activate my recently acquired mod to see what the problem may be.

Interesting comment about the problem resetting after quick-mapping to Goodsprings; I'll see if this works for me as well. If not then I guess I will have to consider retiring NV. I didn't come across this in the official Besethda forums and will bother posting it there if for nothing else, then to hopefully flag it to the Devs (though I am not confident that it will be picked up as something worth fixing).
