theobeau
Sad to see that this issue is still causing problems for some of us. I've mostly resolved the problem, which wasn't as initially bad as what others have reported. I didn't have to re-install my game but I removed the most offending mods (night vision specs and night vision implants which seemed to always trigger a head explosion) which cut down the explosions by 90%. Subsequently, by making sure my Courier doesn't have any gear that uses the exploding collar template, including ditching a modded ED-E's controller, the popular companion mod Willow's necklace and one and two pieces of modded jewellery that uses the collar, I haven't had a head explosion for the last week. I also tracked down and installed a no-explosion collar mod from FNV nexus (look for dree74's mods) though I'm unsure whether it made any difference. As an aside, posting this problem on Beth's forums wasn't very helpful; the advice here in NEXUS was far more detailed and the posters (i.e. Sgt) obviously more familiar with mods and the issue, even if the problem remains intractable. Hope this little bit of advice helps someone.
cj8990
so on two separate occasions my head has exploded and i god moded through them but ive been going back to my old save to before they happened and found out they both happen when the clock hits exactly 12:00 midnight game time.. is everyone elses only happening at midnight? or is this just an amazing coincidence? or are theirs happening consistently at a different time? i found out it doesnt happen if i "wait" so the clock skips 12:00 and ive "waited" til right before midnight on another day and it didnt happen at 12:00 so its random on the day my head will pop but its only happening at 12:00... i have yet to test 12:00 noon Edited June 30, 2011 by cj8990
theobeau
To answer the above post; from memory all the head explosions occurred during in-game evening conditions. I had completed the DLC DM some time ago before getting my first head explosions, which is why I think my problems were mod-related. As another aside, I did not get a single head explosion when my Courier was in Zion for the HH DLC, where my Courier had no explosive collar items and where there were none in the game. SgtOvakil
Well I must say Im glad to report Im making good headway  Just finished a game without one head exploding event. Dead Money WAS INSTALLED. No mods and no fomm or fose. Played over 90 hours and did many side quests also. Run just about the whole game everywear I went. YaHo!!! no head exploding. So it seams to be just about any mod thats uses the slave collar in it or the the slot it uses from what outhers have reported will triger something in the game that at random times your head will explode. Just why the game has this bug I don't know nor am I going to pull any more hair out trying to find out why :wallbash: From here on out Im going to avoid any mods that may contain a slave collar in them. Well save one. My fav house mod adds a slave collar to a shelf after a quest of freeing some slaves down at the legon river crossing. Just have to wait and see :whistling: Thanks to everyone for the help on this odd problem. Oh ya and I hope we have helped all the wasters that have viewed this post
theobeau
@Sgt, Glad to hear that your Courier's head has managed to stay on and that you seem to confirm the collar as the culprit! For future reference: It looks like if you want to stop your Courier's head from exploding, remove any worn slave or explosive collars and don't carry any items that use the collars as their base. Hope this helps people in the future.
killtron5000
I don't have the DLC or any collar items and I still get some explosions. Also, they don't happen only during the evening, I've had it happen during the day. Really annoying. A little question to all the others that have had their heads explode, what karma were you on? It seems to happen to me only when I go very evil. Edited July 11, 2011 by killtron5000

My Couriers had either Good or Very Good karmas when they experienced the exploding head bug. Strange that you are experiencing the explosions despite not having the DM DLC or any collar items. As an aside, could it be at all related to the Hidden Valley/ BoS quest line?
gimpyparrot
I posted a crude "fix" on Nexus... http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43813 Be sure to read the description for its use. Hope it works for everyone!
SuperSledgeNY
After a long absense from playing this game because of the "exploding head" bug, I decided to come back, thinking maybe the game devs have addressed the problem. Well kiddies, I'm sorry to say nothing has been done to fix this issue and my courier's head explodes right on time at Midnight. However, gimpyparrot's bugfix seems to work, at least for me. You can find his mod here on the Nexus at http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43813. Give it a shot and give the man some kudos, he deserves them. typicalcharlie
Think I found a temp work around. My problem started around the time of the update before this last one. Also the about the time I bought Dead Money. Yes this seams to be it. I moved all Dead Money files out of my Game folder and my head stoped blowing up. Yeah, my head keeps going boom too. Boom, die, reload, boom, die, reload, boom, die, switch off, make a coffee, watch TV instead. I found a temp work-around -- If I fast-travel outta there before the next boom, it takes at least five minutes of gameplay before the next session of boom die reload. :( I have no idea what's causing it though.
