Hello! I've been experiencing a lot of CTD in skyrim. I'm a new to modding, i've been fixing my mods in skyrim for 2 weeks already. I've used a lot of tools like LOOT,WRYE BASH,MEMORY BLOCK LOG, ENBOOST, USING SSME (FOR 512 MB BLOCK 1, since SKSE won't work).

I have i7, windows 8.1 64 bit, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 840M

In win 8.1 x64 "4GB RAM" won't help matters much.

Most cases you'll find that your system is running out of memory when playing. even at low res with med settings.

I run pretty much the same system with 8GB of memory and often see over 4GB of system memory used (thats with nothing else running in the background)

Skyrim itself for me sits close to the 2GB threshold and then 900Mb for the OS and then allow for Video memory mirrored by windows (2GB dedicated GT840M, windows reserves 2GB as well).

and your up and over 4GB memory use pretty quick.

End result game turns to mush, windows nags (if you haven't turned of diagnostics) or just straight out CTD

Win 8.1 x64 is not friendly when you starve the os of memory while playing games.

I ended up ditching win 8.1 as it's just plain an simply a badly memory managed os for the way i use my system (well that's my onpinion on it, others may differ).

I'll stick with win 7 x64 as it seems more stable in the above scenario for me.

Do you get CTD doing something certain like using mod item or is it more of just random thing that happens no matter what?

More like a random CTD, even having 512 MB in block 1 it would CTD even at 213 MB.

Since memory is pretty cheap to buy, it wouldn't do any harm.

It may not improve things, but it it won't make them worse, if anything your operating system will use the extra memory regardless.

Win 8.1 and Win 10 are both self serving memory pigs, in other words they use memory for their own background market services and cache instead of using the memory where the actual user could utilize it.

eg: while playing a fullscreen game with lots of mods and the background stuff should be put on hold, but no MS has to prompt and nag and make the system fall over if the user doesn't relingquish using the memory the way they want.

MS solution, buy more ram to do the same stuff you were doing comfortably on less ram..

It's nothing new, been going on since win 3.1
