Crash at launch. Load order conflict? 400 hours in-game.

Hey everyone,

As stated in the title, I've put close to 400 hours in on my first playthrough. I don't have an extreme amount of mods and for the most part have not had many issues. I've noticed over the past couple weeks that my game will "have an error, and will stop working/responding" as soon as I attempt to initially load the game. Most of the time it will do this sometimes up to half a dozen times but then will suddenly work and I have no issues while playing. Unfortunately, there was not one particular time I recall it beginning to happen, so I'm not sure if there is one mod or multiple mods having issues.

I've been unable to replicate any issues consistently, unfortunately. Lastnight, the error just kept happening and I could not load the game so I unchecked all mods and attempted to load them one at a time. I was able to load the game just fine with most of my mods, then when I encountered one that would cause the error, I would assume that was the issue, disable and try again. I would then try it multiple times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Unfortunately there was no consistency as it would load or have the error randomly while activated and not activated and I was unable to pinpoint one mod.

I came on the forums and saw optimized examples and have adjusted my load order according to what I've seen, but I'm still having problems loading the game. Can anyone take a minute to look this over and give me any feedback? Perhaps there are glaring issues I'm not aware of?

Check your mods for updates. Homemaker's mod author just recently, within 24 hours, released a new version of it. I would also uninstall this mod, Homemaker - Settlement Keywords Compatibility Patch.esp, as Homemaker has one that is built in.

Hey, thanks for the response! Yes, part of my issue may have been related to a couple non-updated mods; although I intentionally didn't update some because I didn't feel it necessary based on the changes. However, it was obvious that some really needed it at this point. Prior to updating though, I went through yet again after deactivating everything and tried multiple launches after activating each plugin. Took a couple hours, but it felt like I narrowed it down. After then updating, everything seemed to be working.

Funny thing; after doing all this work and seeing my game start up fine, I went to start up EVGA Precision like I always do and noticed the previous error hit me again. Could this be related to the Precision software? I like using it for my fan control settings. I'm aware that you can't use Precision while using an ENB, which I found out while playing Skyrim, but I'm not using an ENB for Fallout 4; just a reshade preset. If Precision has been causing this issue the whole time, that is irritating. I guess I'll just use Nvidia Inspector and manually adjust the fan on there instead, while playing.

If that is the problem, there might be something else going on. I would run a search for Fallout 4 and the EVGA Precision, and see if anyone else has problems.

There's a very good possibility that the precision software is related to the problem. If you have shadow play that could be as well. I have an AMD card and if the Raptr software is running the game does all sorts of weird things. I shut it down and haven't had a ctd since. So I'd say try closing precision and see if that does anything over a few days of testing. or longer.

I would test for an hour, while also manually adjusting the fan speed. You must have a better card than I do. I'm running a GTX 750. I'm thinking, for price sake, just going to a 980. Not sure if I want the 980 or the 980 TI.
