Need some information - small personal mod

Greetings Modders.

I have recently decided to try my hand at some modding for Fallout: New Vegas [and Fallout 3 - but thats a different topic]. The first mod I decided to make while putzing around was a simple one to reduce hacking choices to just one word [i hate the hacking game - yes it is cheating a bit to bypass it, but I get too frustrated]. In Fallout 3 I used a mod called Action Boy Hacking - looking at that mod in FO3Edit showed me that 2 records were changed - iHackingMaxWords and iHackingMinWords]. I decided it would be good to do a mod of my own like this for Fallout: New Vegas so I created a new mod file and changed the game setting variables iHackingMaxWords and iHackingMinWords words to 1 - my eventual plan is to then reduce the XP given for hacks to a much smaller amount to reflect the lack of effort.

I loaded the mod last in my load order [to ensure it overrides anything else] but am experiencing odd behaviour - every terminal I go to now is unlocked. Every single one - I haven't encountered a single locked terminal since I loaded this mod into my game. Now it could be that I have just been lucky and not come across any terminals that should be locked, but I am not sure. I was pretty sure I saw a YouTube video on the REPCONN factory area that showed a few terminals that were locked, every terminal I encountered in that zone was unsecured though.

Am I mis-remembering the existance of locked terminals in the REPCONN factory? Or is something in my mod not working as I planned? Any ideas out there?

Technical Details from FNVEdit:

Game Setting: 0F000ADD - iHackingMinWords -->

===FormID: iHackingMinWords [GMST:0F000ADD]

===EDID - Editor ID: iHackingMinWords

====Data - Value: 1

Game Setting: 0F000ADE - iHackingMaxWords -->

===FormID: iHackingMaxWords [GMST:0F000ADE]

===EDID - Editor ID: iHackingMaxWords

====Data - Value: 1

Any thoughts on the matter are appreciated.

to test it out, just start a new game and go to the goodsprings saloon, there is a locked computer there. I have a game saved right after the char gen to test out my mods so i know nothing besides leaving docs house is done

Thanks for that! I didn't really explore the saloon so I never noticed the locked terminal.

Apparently there were no locked terminals in REPCONN - my mod worked just fine when I used the one in the saloon though, only showed one word as I intended. Now I just need to drop the XP reward by a bit.

its under gamesettings -> iXPRewardHackComputer(Easy/hard ect)

Thanks again :)

Also, totally off topic, but what ship are you on?

I served on the USS Kitty Hawk out of Yokosuka from 99-03. Tried going Sonar/Subs when I enlisted back then but my eyes were too FUBAR (Even the Army thought so when I enlisted there a few years after leaving the Navy - my eyes were bad enough to lock me out of Infantry O.o)

:) - Yes, I used to call them boats - though in proper Navy vernacular a Boat is something with oars :) [i remember my RDC drilling that into our heads a few times - though that goes away when you hit the Fleet].

Surface ships may be big floating targets my good subman, but at least we could jump into the sea if something goes wrong :P [i would not, however, advise jumping into the sea from the flight deck of an Aircraft carrier... the water hurts at that height heh]. I can proudly say I wasn't a tin can sailor though... or maybe it isn't pride, just heartburn.

[Oh, and don't call me sir - I earned my rank the old fashioned way, by ignoring the scrambled eggs as much as was safe and doing things the right way ;-)]

doing it the right way or midnight maintenance? we all know that nukes are the only ones that dont really earn rank. but then again you couldnt get me anywhere near pro pay. i think a submarine cant really sink since our egos are way to big and wont let us go down that far. if not ill die from implosion before i find out im wrong :)
