Give Melee the Unarmed special attacks

Hey all, couldn't find anything about this in search or via Google. Wanted to know if it would be possible to make the Unarmed special attacks (Ranger Takedown, Paralyzing Palm, etc.) work for Melee as well.

I was always annoyed by the fact that Obsidian decided to add all these special perks to non-gun combat to make it more interesting (like Oblivion which had the same thing) only to give it to Unarmed only, leaving Melee users out in the cold and left with the boring "swing a lot" strategy or the one VATS attack (as opposed to Unarmed having two...) to win fights.

Speaking of VATS, would it also be possible to give Melee weapons multiple VATS attacks as Unarmed has, too?

I would like to see this done as well. Animations themselves might be difficult, but would it be so hard to incorporate a 'disarm' effect to the sideways power attacks? Knockdown or knockback to the backward power attack?

As someone who likes to get up close and personal in FONV, I'm behind this.

IIRC, the special attack effects are actually in scripts you can select from a drop-down field in the weapon record. You can set it in the GECK. (If you can make the new one work right.) Only one per weapon, though, unless you feel like writing your own script which picks a random effect based on some criteria. There is one more script one can select for critical hits, and the option whether or not to apply only to critical kills. But you could set your weapon to, say, knock down or stun on critical hits or whatnot. Makes sense for a hammer or staff or such, too.

So basically you can take it as a DIY project. Just download the melee weapon of your choice and edit the heck out of it, if it doesn't already have such effects. Some already do. E.g., IIRC my greatswords have a knock-down special attack already. But you can really do it yourself for any other weapon you fancy.

I totally agree. Can't for the life of me understand why they would give such perks to Unarmed weapons ONLY, as well as two VATS attacks to Unarmed ONLY. Giving such things to Melee as well would make for much more interesting combat, IMO.

Thanks for the response. I know you can do it on critical hits and such if you set it per weapon, but I'd like to have it where any Melee weapon has the same capabilities that any Unarmed weapon gets right out of the box. As in, you do a backward power attack on a Melee weapon and it has a chance at knockdown just like Unarmed weapons do, after learning Ranger Takedown. Or like Oblivion, the ability to disarm with a sideways power attack. Even though I do actually use a custom Melee weapon I made myself, it'd be better for all Melee weapons to have it, default or otherwise.

I don't even know if it's possible, but I hope it is.
