geck update/ eps's cannot be found

Recommended Posts

i downloaded to newest version of geck, im guessing its updated anyway, thats what the link that took me to bethesda said, but when i make even a simple gun mod, the esp wont show anywhere, so, can anyone tell me if this is the new geck? and why are my esp's not being saved when im saving them? these kinds of things make me really not want to bother with it anymore, as most tutorials do not help or either are on very very very newb or vague topics and are vague with the way they describe them.

Ran into this earlier on another thread. I downloaded my geck update from the official site but I see lots of posts with people having problems so I went back to the Bethesda site tonight and checked out the NV geck download, Here is what I found and what I posted in the other thread.

Well, Not really sure what is going on. I downloaded the new GECK 1.3 from the Bethesda sight as soon as it was released and it was the proper updated GECK. I just went and checked the Bethesda site and for some reason they have removed the 1.3 GECK and put back the 1.1 version which will not work with the patched game. Make sure you have the right version. 1.1 is old geck. 1.3 is new geck.

Here is a link to a page on this forum that has a post about half way down the page with a direct link to down load the proper 1.3 GECK.

After that you will need to get the NVSE BETA 10 from

http://nvse.silverlock.org/

The Beta 10 works for both the game and the GECK updates. Beta 9 was a quick fix that only worked for the patched the game itself because the new GECK had not yet been released.

yeah i read that b4, thats why i made a folder for mods named test mods and put it in my data folder, then i just move them over to data, it didnt let me save str8 to data for some reason, i finally was able to make my gun, after 7 tries, but i still cannot edit any previous mods nor can i convert my fo3 mods to fnv, and i was scared to ask for help bcuz someone said converting was illegal, but the textures and meshes do not belong to bethesda, they were made by my friend!

There was a post some where about it is possible to simply move the entire steam folder to another area on your hard drive with out any problems. Like from programs 86 right into C\Myfolder\whatever .No reinstalling etc. Just copy and paste. I just tried an experiment with that this morning on my laptop. My laptop has not been patched and I want to keep a copy of the unpatched game. I copied the entire steam folder over to another folder in my C games and renamed the Steam folder it self. I just added a y calling it steamy. Took less than ten minutes because the copy process took 8 minutes. I then used the exe in the steamy folder and started in off line mode with no problems. I have other games on steam and I travel a lot taking the laptop. I know sure as anything that one day I will sign into steam and it is going to update the game because I forgot to use settings or some other silly thing. So hopefully even if my main steam is updated it will not be able to find my hidden folder.

Outside of 86 I myself have not had problems modding any game I have including TES4 and FO3.

this may sound dumb, how different is it for players that dont use steam?, like the direct drive thing, i think thats what its called, anyway, my geck is working fine now and i converted the mod i was working on, i had to run it as adminstrator, never thought about it b4, but i read it in a post here, and with all the updates and changes plus we are modding here so, changes get a + added to it, it just seemed logical, with all these files competing for dominance over 1 another

It seems to me that all you really need steam for is initial download and start up. You cannot just buy and install the game from the disk. You have to have steam to activate and download all the required files which to sucks but I do understand why most people like it. It does have its advantages. After that off line mode is available and you can play anywhere anytime on any drive with out issue.

I almost always play in offline mod. The thing is though if I sign into steam to play another game every game I have on steam will update if any updates are available. It is also good to sign in once in while to get the actual steam updates for steam itself. But this folder I made I can play off line forever no problem. zip it up and put it on any machine etc. The thing for me is I like the GECK power up utility that adds a debug type feature to the geck. The update broke that mod and it is no longer supported. So far for me edits made in the old geck using power up on my laptop work fine in the updated game data folder on my PC. If somebody ever takes over the power up mod or comes up with something better than power up I will not care if the game updates or not. But still I play in offline mode most of the time regardless of updates or not.

That is the problem with utility mods. They are great as long as they supported but when the modders grow tired of supporting them..........................! Imagine the turmoil that would break out if the NVSE team went their separate ways and no longer supported their mod. The next update would wipe out most of the mods that are available now. Hopefully something like that will not happen. The powers that be at Bethesda\Obsidian will someday decide that there is no more money to be made from FONV and move on to different projects and then no more updates. Any mod that is still supported at that time will be safe and playable until Bill Gates comes up with a new operating system that will no longer support the game. :)

The Direct2drive version installs Steam.
