Retexturing A Spell

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I apologize if this is the wrong forum. This is my first time using them and I couldn't see anywhere else that this could go.

My name, "Master Rahl," comes from a series of books called "Sword of Truth," in which magic has two sides: Additive, and Subtractive. Additive can add to what is there, amplify it, or change it. Subtractive can, well, destroy it. I was looking to add Subtractive magic into the game but I would need to retexture at least one spell to do it properly — the lightning/shock spell effect. I'm not even entirely sure that spells can be retextured. So I'm coming here for advice. Is there any tutorial I could go to to learn to do this? Is it even possible?

I have the following tools:

Blender

(with Blender nif scripts)

NifSkope

GIMP

The spell I would definitely need to change would need to be completely black. It would still need to have the resemblance of lightning, but rather than the usual bluish hue, it would need to be solid black. Any help would be much appreciated.
