Deepscorn Hollow (Vile Lair) Makeover

I just replied to a similar buried thread that I found venturing deep in the forums, but it only covered a part of the problem so I decided to make my own thread.

The Deepscorn Hollow addon for Oblivion is a huge disappointment for fans of Vampiric lore. Where are the bloodbaths? Beautiful maidens imprisoned for the Vampire's next supper? The whole evil, horrid business that goes with being a creature of the night? ... Yes I like roleplaying, sue me...

After refurbishing the place it's still just a gloomy grave.. The "cattle" is an ugly male monk in a cage in a gloomy cell (That fool you buy stuff from can't do better? - Though the cattle part was cheaper I think I'd rather have had a "deluxe version" with the same price as the others)

And for some reason you can just go and Cure yourself at the conveniently placed cleansing pool? It's supposed to be a vampire's lair not an experiment where you just quit and go about being a good guy again after you get bored!

Now for instance, the Pale Lady had it right.. Bottling human blood is the way to go for a vampire.. Why can't you do that in -your- dungeon?

The shrine of Sithis looks too hastily thrown together, and though that could remain as the default look like the previous owner left it, but why can't you coerce some gimps to just carve it up to a more clean arrangement than have that chaotic mess?

Also, if you're a powerful vampire why do you have to run all the way from the quick travel point to that hidden entrance, constantly burning your ass off in the sun, Why not just pay to have a small entrance stairway with some magical lock or something (in case someone wants to peek in) more conveniently placed over at the small island?

Seriously, the addon is not really worth even the 5 bucks it costs these days such as it is..

So I'm asking people with the know-how, please mod this addon! Though I think there's an issue where you might end up giving the files needed for the addon to work for free so it would have to be done so that it.. couldn't work if one does not have the addon? If you read this thread whole, I've nothing to give you for your time but a warm thank you.

The story behind it is that the vampire who lived there believed he heard Sithis speak to him and tell him that being a vampire = bad, so he researched a cure. In fact, that's why he's not still alive. He eventually died after losing his vampiric immortality. It is a FORMER vampire's lair who "repented" from being a vampire, while still living there. Yes, you can buy some convenient vampire food for it, but that doesn't change how the place came to be and what went on there.

Sithis is considered the mythological/rumored god of the void and even the void itself. If you want it to be truly representative of Sithis, it either needs to be an empty black room, or it needs to be quite chaotic.

My modding skills are non-existent. I just felt like I should point these things out.

Though that is true, it doesn't mean the place should stay as lame for the new owner it was for the previous. The whole point is with the upgrades being too lame for a vampire character. Though they work well as intended the idea would be to enhance the experience to a higher level.

Also, I think a dark room/catacomb kind of a thing where you couldn't use torches would be awesome though I don't much care for Sithis, though I don't think the chaotic stuff really fits the picture, as you said if he's the god of void or something his representation should be very minimalistic.

I'm just big on lore friendly stuff. I have an inherent dislike for things that contradict game/series' history entirely. (For that reason, I wish there was a mod that placed all undead summoning spells in tomes you'd have to find in necromancer dungeons before you can learn them and start using their effects in your own spells...) But sure, you're right, he could have had better accommodations before he "repented," and Deepscorn Hollow (along with Thieves Den) is a disappointment when compared to Battlehorn Castle. I was just saying to someone just the other day that it's unfortunate that Deepscorn Hollow and Thieves den haven't had the same mod treatment done to them as Frostcrag Revisited has done to Frostcrag. (Only a minor adjustment to backstory for the sake of a more immersive activation of content, good utilities, great aesthetics, and the additions avoid adding items or adversely effecting the already pathetic game balance.)

I think void is a bit hard to sufficiently represent at a glance with just emptiness, so I actually prefer the chaos approach to the depiction. I'm sure a good modder would be able to make it a great deal more ominous than it is though, maybe a combination of inky blackness and the chaotic structure peaking out from the murk.

Indeed. I've even kept the tome of unlife in hoping it might somehow give my character (who has this thing about getting stronger by any means) more power one day.. But the idea is that you're not restoring the lair to it's former glory, instead, you're bringing your own upgrades, and that's why I think the change should be more radical.

The inky blackness sounds exactly what would be needed for a better atmosphere... Maybe some pillars and wall carvings picturing the ones forever lost to the void? I think the shrine cave could be about the size of a small chapel.

I really hope somebody would be up for the challenge.. Especially when the next game's just around the corner...
