XCOM 2 Forums/Mods

Some users have been asking for the XCOM 2 forums to be created in a thread on the XCOM Forums.

As far as I'm aware, that requires a mod upload first. So question is, would a dummy mod, consisting of an empty text file, be enough to start the forums?

If so. is it OK to upload one, for that reason.

No. :armscrossed:

From the ToS:

Ensure you upload a file for your file entry as soon as possible. Do not create "placemarkers" or "Work-in-progress" pages for files that are incomplete or you haven't even created yet. If uploading a file will take a long time or you're not ready yet then keep your file set to Hidden until you are ready. Do not deliberately create a file page without uploading any files just to generate hype or interest... it will get you banned.

And all first-time uploads for "new" games must be manually approved, so any attempt to sneak in an "empty" mod would fail.

Recommendation: Continue XCOM2 discussions in the XCOM forum until, you know, there's an actual XCOM2 and actual mods for it. (Same thing happened with the DA- and FO-series.)

[Disclaimer: Dark0ne can always decide differently. ]

No problem, I thought it may not be acceptable, I asked the question to confirm this, as technically it wouldn't be a placeholder or Work-in-Progress Mod. I would have made it clear, it was an empty text file to generate the Forums.

However you said the forum generation occurs manually not automatic, so uploading a dummy mod simply won't work anyway.

XCOM 2 will release at midnight and if the files weren't encrypted, we'd at least have ini tweak mods now.

I've only preordered two game in my life, Fallout 4 and XCOM 2, both for early file access.

Fallout 4 was all the files except the Fallout4.exe, XCOM 2's files are in a DepotCache folder still packed in what appear to be, an encrypted multi file archive format.

If forums are manual, the requests weren't pointless as I thought, except no moderator was likely to have seen the requests, buried im a general thread.

So I posted what I thought was, the correct question, here, knowing it was more likely to attract moderator attention here.

Only ten hours till release now, feels very strange to me, waiting to play a game I've alreadty bought.

Fallout 4, I got only a few hours before release after reviews, told me what I already knew, like Skyrim, it was a mediocre Vanilla Game with some fun elements. Also one of the best modding sanboxes out there, allowing us to fix the parts we personally don't like.

In the few hours of waiting I was busy in the files and mods already existed, before I even noticed, Steam released the game and I hardly had to wait to play.

That felt more like the post release games I usually buy. This preordering to get the files is no good to me, if I don't get access to the files.

I've never played Vanilla XCOM, I played Long War first and Vanilla seemed much to restrictive after that. XCOM was already old enough that, Long War was what attracted me to the game, mods like that take some time to develop.

Long War Team is making a mod for XCOM 2, it's supposed to release tommorrow, with the game. So I may end up not playing Vanilla again, or I may do that first.

Thanks for the response, though I needed no "Banning warning", I asked rather than uploaded. Other users can read this as well, they might need such a warning, so it's not a problem.
