vdgamer
whenever i install a mod, any mod i get instant crash when trying to continue, load or start new game (usually during the loading screen), ive tried removing and adding different mods but it seems like the game crashes no matter which mod i use, when i do clean install with shining isles updated to latest everything runs fine, but as soon as i add a mod like HGEC_Body, Elves_of_Lineage_II, Rens_Beauty Pack or even unofficial oblivion patch the game crashed, ive tried different compatibility modes/administrator, uninstalls/clean reinstalls but nothig helps im about to give up, the funny thing is i had this game running with ton of mods on this same pc few months ago but lost all my data, the only thing that changed is i got new hdds and new video card but everything else runs fine so im sure its not hardware issue im completely out of ideas righ now, any help will be greatly appreciated
bben46
Since you changed the video card, it is no longer the same computer. You need to regenerate your Oblivion.ini file to reflect the changes. If you delete it, the next time you start the game it will create a new one based on the new video card. (Oblivion.ini found here - C:\users\your user name\my documents\my games\Oblivion ) If you have Win7 or Vista, Windows UAC will prevent mods and other things that change your game from working. That is what it is supposed to do. Best solution - reinstall the game outside of the protected 'program files' folder Many mods require either the latest patch and/or OBSE make sure you have both. Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the articles section of the Nexushttp://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240 It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice. vdgamer
Everything youve mentioned i have done, inlcuding multiple clean reinstalls, i think my problem is ArchiveInvalidation, i dont remmember what i used before (when i fist played oblivion but i never had any issues with mods), but this time i tried using ArchiveInvalidation removal mod which apparently didnt work for me, so i used oblivion mod manager ArchiveInvalidation option (the one under utilities) and i was able to create a character and play until i got out of sewers and about 20-30 sec in outside world game crashes again tried multiple times, the only mods im using are HGEC_Body_v1dot21, Hi Res textures for HGEC Body, Custom Races Cute_Elves and Elves_of_Lineage_II, Unofficial Oblivion Patch,Rens_Beauty_plus_Soya_Hair_Final_OMOD,Chase Camera, Qarls Texture pack III with update and mtaevwdlite and hd lod packs, basically hi res mods world textures, i still think its ArchiveInvalidation issues, what is the best tool to use for ArchiveInvalidation ? i never used to have these issues before and i remmember i used to just pile up mods and had no issues
bben46
What you describe, crashing right after the sewers is usually a symptom of a weak graphics card. There is a huge jump in graphics rendering when you first leave the sewers. You seem to have several mods that increase the resolution of things making it an even bigger jump. Try with NO mods (Make a save just before exiting the sewer first) If you can play with no mods, try installing them one at a time and using that save just before exiting the sewer to test. Other ideas - set your game resolution to the native resolution of your monitor. Lower the in game graphics settings (but not the resolution)
vdgamer
Ill try your suggestions although GTX570 should be able to handle any texture mod for oblivion, when it did run for few seconds it ran at 60 flps and gpu load % was low so card isnt having any issues with whose textures, also you didnt reply about archive invalidation, should i just use the feature build into mod manager or something else? do i have to run it everytime i add mod? bben46
I have always just used the archive invalidation built into OBMM. You only need to run it if there is a problem. Oblivion was designed to run on the computers that were available 6 to 7 years ago and is starting to show it's age when run on newer systems. Especially multi processor CPUs. Some people say to limit it to 1 or 2 cores for better performance. I haven't seen much difference, but I only have 2 cores.
Telyn
I think your LODs may be crashing you because when you exit the sewers, that is when LOD problems would become evident. Have you run Tes4LODGen?
vdgamer
No i havent , what does Tes4LODGen do?
vdgamer
Ok now im really confused, i did clear reinstall yet again and i get the same crash as with mods, about after ten seconds after exiting sewers game crashes, what would cause this?, the only things installed are the game itself and shivering isles with latest patch, also i use vista sp2 compatibility mode to run the game, because it crashes instantly with windows7, but i remember using that a while back too when i fist played oblivion so that shoulnd be an issue
