Errors when installing DAzips through DAUpdater

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I recently purchased the Digital Download copy of Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition through the EA Store.

After hunting through my program folders to find DAUPdater I've found using it to put in modded game content a total non-starter.

I've had no problem using mods which make use of the Overide folder. Actually no trouble at all.

But whenever I try to open a DAzip file using the Updater it dies just before completion and pops out an error log.

Not sure why, right now. I am new to this. But after trying three separate DAzips I got the same end result.

Can anybody assist, or explain?

I'll add the error reports to this thread for assessment.

Thanks.

Firstly the following, which was for the Devout Armor, found on this forum:

  Reveal hidden contents

And secondly from a Mod of the Bioware Social Site, for alternate faces for Morrigan, Leliana and Sten (DOA Trailer Edition):

  Reveal hidden contents

And this one for the Armor of the Elven Warden, also from this site:

Anybody got a clue?

Welcome, marcusDAO!

Sorry you're having a problem. Usually this error indicates an issue with a filepath not being "as expected" when DAUpadter tries to manipulate the contents of the ".dazip" file. (This is probably your situation, with the mod author having coded the default retail-disc install paths into the archive.)

One solution others have used is to extract the contents and then place them into "\addins" manually.

Another is to use "DAO-Modmanager" (DAMM), instead of DAUpdater. DAMM allows you to edit the paths for all the various components of DA to match your specific environment.

Let us know if you succeed.

Good Luck!

Hi Thandal.

I gave that a go.

Downloaded the Modmanager, extracted to a folder on my desktop, tried to run it, and...

Error.

"An error occurred while reading the Addins.xml

Invalid character in the given encoding. Line 30, position 47

they want the file repair?"

YES/NO/CANCEL

Any clue what has gone wrong here?

So at that point did you check/edit the paths for your install using the "Options" tab (the last one on the right) on the DAMM screen? The DD version may have slightly different paths (but since I don't have that installation, can't say with any certainty...)

As of yet, I don't know. Because the Application won't start. It brings up that error prompt, and I'm a bit loath to click to 'Repair' not being sure if it'll do any damage elsewhere.

Does the username of the account that you're logged into have any characters other than letters or numbers in it?

Such as !@#$%^&*()`~<> ? That can cause errors with DA, as the game engine can't read those.

For instance:

C:\Users\John-$mith\

As soon as it hits John- the updater is gonna go "WTF???" and crash out.

Just an idea, and thought I'd ask.

Now you mention it I believe the system is still under the default name of "Compaq_user". Is there any work around for that? As I'm pretty sure I'll have infinitely more problems trying to set up a separate User Account on the PC.
