Must Have Mods?

Finally picked up The Ultimate Edition of Dragon Age Origins from Steam thanks to one of there sales. But I was Wondering, Are there any must have Mods? or should I just play as is?

Also I'm mainly looking for character mods, because lets be honest, I don't want to spend all my time getting a character I want to look at for XX hours. lol

I'm rocking a core i7 930, with 6 GB Ram (likely to be 18 GB in a few weeks), and a Nvidia GTX 470 so I'm not to worried about performance for this game.

Welcome, SonicPet07!

Ignoring the joke response above (although that is a real mod), let me say you're in for a real treat. DA is (still) one of the best RPG's around. A consistent piece of advice from those of us who have experienced it is, "Play it your first time through un-modded." There really aren't any game-breaking bugs, and that way you can appreciate the great job the BioWare team did in putting this world together, then really appreciate what the authors of the mods you select have done. DA is worth replaying at least three times. (I've got about a dozen full runs, and several more partials.)

But after your first playthrough, go wild! My total stock of mods is over 4GB, with about 2.5 installed and running anytime I play. (Last time was just before DA2 demo was released, and I've had the game since Nov 09!) Although the lists provided in the posts in this thread are a little dated now, (some great mods have been produced since then) here's a link to a discussion of different preferences in what aspects to mod, and which mods to use to achieve that. "Good mods - Opinions".

See also: "Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies".

I prefer certain types; Appearance mods, (I'll change the way something or someone looks in-game anytime I find a look I like better) and Bug Fixes. (DA has its share, mostly related to plot-flags or "extrea" abilities (of items and characters). And I find both Qwinn's and the DA Core Rules fixpacks are very helpful in correcting the majority of them.)

And one mod I highly recommend (after your first time through) is the "Morrigan Restoration Patch Dialogue Fix" (MRP). Some great scenes and responses were completed, are contained on the disc, and get installed on your rig, but will never fire in the vanilla version. TerraEx (an amazing modder) created this Patch to put those elements back into the game. (Warning, one of the "option" branches he restored can cause an unrecoverable change in your Party's composition. You pick that choice, the rest of the game can be radically different. We think that's why it got cut so late in the process...)

Other people like other changes, better loot, tougher enemies, better abilities. Mods for all those things exist.

And then there are several community-created "expansions" to the original campaign. A couple are even fully-voiced.

Have Fun, and let us know what your think!
