GECK problems

Recommended Posts

Alright, I'm trying to install the NCCS NosCo Companion system. So far, all good. It said that I'd need to install GECK, which I did, in order to create some of the NPC's. That's all fine and dandy. Went out, DL'd it and I'm fine. In the instructions, it said that I should probably download a different version, to fix some of the problems with bethesda's GECK. Again, fine. I noted that it said I needed to download an additional update, because i have NVSE. Again, fine. So, I get all of this installed and up. And what do you know, I've got a strange problem.

When I run GECK, click Data, and select the NosCo Companion System, and hit OK, nothing displays in any catagories in the Object window. Pointedly, the NPC tab is empty - no subtab. According to the instructions I have, there should be a list of basic NPC's, or something along those lines, but there's not.

Now, chances are I'm just missing something obvious, but I don't know. I haven't been able to find any solution or another problem like it which leads me to believe it's me being stupid and missing something. But, any help would be welcome.

I am a bit confused because I read the description and installation instructions and I'm not aware of any conflict between NCCS and NVSE, nor do I see any special update related to NVSE, all I see is the v0.6 beta library, thats the current version. NCCS runs under vanilla New Vegas 1.3 so if you simply have the latest version of NVSE I don't see any reason there should be a conflict.

Not sure what this companion system is exactly. Most of the problems people have been having recently come from a recent game patch about a week ago now.

The most recent game version is, 1.3.0.452

The updated Geck for this patch is the same 1.3.0.452

The most recent NVSE is Beta 10

Any one of these that is not the correct version will cause problems from not doing anything at all to starting but not loading esp files etc.

The old GECK version was 1.1. There has been some strangeness with the official Bethesda site down load. Sometimes it is 1.1 other times it is the 1.3 GECK. It is the first down load link on the Bethesda page. The other two GECK links at the bottom of the page are for the original Fallout 3 GECK which not work with New Vegas. Considering in your post you said you down loaded the GECK and then down loaded the update it sounds like you may have used the two Fallout 3 links at the bottom of the page instead of the single Fallout New Vegas link at the top.

Steam should have already patched your game if you auto updates enabled

On another thread drakeeleven posted a link to the good 1.3 Geck download.

Here is a link to the Beta 10 NVSE

You said you are following instructions so I assume you do not know how to set up an NVSE loader for Geck. It is in the readme for NVSE and not hard. Just create another short cut from the NVSE loader and name it,

fallout new vegas\nvse_loader.exe" -editor

Just add the -editor there is an empty space between execute and -editor
