Constant crashing, desparate for help.

I bought Fallout 3 off Steam yesterday, and have had nothing but problems with it right from download. I've finally got it running, but it crashes constantly, with the longest I've been able to play two minutes. It's a random crash, as it's been happening all the way to Megaton. I've tried a fair number of random fixes that I found online, such as the .ini tweak for multicore, and random things like running in XP compatibility mode, running as administrator and updating my drivers. It's going for longer between crashes (still only max two minutes) but is not what I'd consider playable.

Any fixes anyone can recommend I am willing to try, but I'm pretty close to even trying a complete OS reinstall, I would greatly appreciate any help on getting my game running, even if the crashes are only 5 minutes apart.

Judging from your DXDIAG, your OS is using far too much RAM (3958 out of 4096) this may be causing your crashes because Fallout can't access the rest of the RAM. Try disabling services before playing by using Game Booster. It also might not help that you're using a notebook, the graphics card of which is seriously underpowered for Fallout (IMO) Edited by TheReverendTholomewPlague

Thanks, I'll try disabling the services, but in terms of the graphics card, I can run New Vegas absolutely fine on this laptop. Also my older laptop, at five years old and almost less than the minimum requirements, ran Fallout 3 on medium graphics. Thanks for mentioning the RAM issue though :) will definitely give that a go.

 

*EDIT* Tried Game Booster. Got the crash after about ten seconds :(
