To Whom This May Concern(Admin)

I have recently noticed problems with this computer when visiting/logging in, nexusmods.com. (and ONLY this site.) CPU usage 100%; desktop has black squares; Firefox will corrupt itself and freeze, etc. I am running linux. I have noticed when I remove: libopenipmi0 , it solves the proplems except there are no pics in the mod section. WHAT does this site use libopenipmi0 or it's equvilant for? For what libopenipmi0 does, it looks a bit insidious.....

Hello,

As you say - OpenIPMI is used as a tool in administrating linux servers and getting sensor information etc - http://wiki.adamsweet.org/doku.php?id=ipmi_on_linux

This has nothing to do with the nexusmods website, and installing/uninstalling that package should make no difference to your browsing experiencing on any website!

It sounds like you might have a more serious problem somewhere with something in your computer.

What happens in other browsers - have you tried any ?

On this computer , I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon desktop. I've seen this problem for a long time. I did a complete re-install couple a weeks ago to be sure everything was clean. The symptoms disappear after a reboot but come back while visiting this site. I've also seen it with Ubuntu (2013) but chalked it up to something else. I came upon the libopenipmi0 package while in synaptic and wondered if something was happening after reading about some remote desktop issues, (black squares on desktop.) Oddly after removing libopenimpi0 package the problems ceased but so did all images (except for advertisements,) on the site. Also, I have NOT been able to replicate the issue by re-installing libopenipmi0, (what is this doing on my desktop anyway?) and all images are still gone.I'll see if it returns.

Update:

I have checked 4 computers, 4 different video cards, 2 OS's. I was able to replicate the garbled nexusmods site problems with a radeon x1950 and x800 card on two different computers. Seems to be a video rendering /linux /radeon x----series problem with your site. Why only your site I don't know. What libopenipmi0 had or had not to do with it ,..I don't know. By the way, on one computer I was bumped off by Firefox telling me it was an “improperly configured site.” I have pics of all the problems if anyone has an interest.

  • 2 months later...

Update final: Since the recent Nexusmods file revamping, etc., I no longer have these problems. I can actually read the description files and not have black squares on my desktop! I don't know what you did but it seems to be working. Thanks to whomever!
