Mod Request: Better Sniper Class

Hello Nexus and Xcom Community!

 

I don't know about the rest of you but I really feel like the sniper class is not up to par with everyone else. For me they feel more like a handicap when you take them on missions. To start things off, here are my reasoning's:

 

1. A true sniper class can only fire the sniper rifle if they haven't moved that turn. This is not very ideal in terror & timed missions. I'd rather take an additional phantom ranger or specialist.

 

2. Long watch/Kill zone requires setup. Again with the amount of timed missions in this game you usually don't have enough time to mess around with this.

 

3. Snipers still suffer from overwatch penalties. So when you do finally have a chance to set them up you still have to worry about them actually hitting the target with their one available shot unless you have killzone. Even then you have to mod your magazine size for it to be useful.

 

4. Gunslingers builds aren't to bad but even they suffer from damage fall off. They are decent in the early game, slightly worse in mid game, and only situational in late game. When you're facing down Sectopods, gate keepers, and andromedons you're usually only using gunslingers to pick off smaller targets. However they can be pretty good with dragon rounds but you have to hope that eventually you'll be able to acquire those through research.

 

Mod Suggestions:

 

1. Snap shot: able to fire the sniper rifle in the same turn that they moved with a negative modifier to crit chance

 

2. Remove overwatch penalties completely so that you can reliably fire the sniper rifle when you have enough time for the setup

 

3. Really high Crit Chance - Leave the class as is but boost their crit chance. I feel like when you're actually able to set snipers up they should be able to one shot/one kill most targets. This would at least give you some satisfaction for the amount of time used.

 

 

I don't know, maybe I'm just not using them right. I'm currently playing on veteran difficulty and I'm pretty far into the late game. But the way I typically play Xcom is if I allowed the enemies to have a turn then one of three things happened or a combination off all. A hard target that I couldn't take down on the first turn of reveal, I did something wrong as a player, or my squad just didn't pull through and hit their intended targets. Usually I never make requests like this but unfortunately I have little experience in modding games. I would however like to see your opinions as a community. Does the sniper need to change? How are you using them? Are these suggestions helpful at all?
