Squeecky
Hey there,I was wondering the following.. If I make a character in the Character Pool an advanced rank (for example sharpshooter) will they be in my next game as a Mission reward/Purchase option as a Squaddie+ rank sharpshooter, or will they join as a recruit that will automaticaly become a Sharpshooter? I'd much more prefer the first, so I can play as my own characters as soon as the game launches.(Yes, I know there is the GTS, but if you have a limited amount of recruits, you may be forced to take them before you have a GTS and they may be a different class.) davidlallen
AFAIK characters in the pool appear as recruits and can get any class when they level up. They keep their previous nickname, which can look a little weird when Joe "Doc" Smith is a sharpshooter.
Squeecky
That's not entirely what I meant, I might have worded it wrong. If a character, say..Jessica is assigned as a Ranger in the Character Pool, will she appear in the game as a recruit that automatically becomes a Ranger then, or will she be a Squaddie+ that I buy with supplies? davidlallen
Look carefully in the character pool. They don't have classes. It only keeps the name, (nickname), and appearance.
Squeecky
Then what's the point of assigning them the special class? To get the looks right?
Hobbes77
Then what's the point of assigning them the special class? To get the looks right? Yup. With the AWC you can train the character for the class you want, although any characters already assigned to a class can't be reassigned.

Than you will be surprised  Please scroll down after you select some character from the pool. http://i.imgur.com/7G6eysw.jpg That's not entirely what I meant, I might have worded it wrong. I can write only own experience on this. I got few characters from the pool as rookies and one at Resistance HQ so far.Rookie 1 - former PSI operative; ended like ranger after the 1st mission's random promotionsRookie 2 - former grenadier; used Guerilla Tactics School to be sure she is grenadier againSoldier at Resistance HQ - former Specialist; bought SpecialistIn my opinion the class assignment in the character pool matters. davidlallen
That matches with my experience, except I never got anybody as a soldier. You can get characters from the character pool in two ways: 1. As a rookie. Original class is lost but nickname is kept. Of course you can use GTS to force them back to their previous class. If you don't use GTS to force, then they get a random class when they become a squaddie. 2. As a purchased soldier (if the checkbox is checked). Class is kept. I never got #2 and it will be pretty rare. I have gotten 40-50 rookies in the 3-4 games I started with a pool. I have only purchased 1-2 soldiers. Squeecky
Thanks for the answers, guys! It'd be nice if you got them as rookie's and they got their class you want them to be. :) I guess people could use it to cheat, though. Very much a big thank you Thread can be closed. ^^
