smokey751
Howdy folks! Are there any existing mods for NV that give like 5 extra perks, for a total of 20, instead of 15 by the end of the vanilla game? I know there are mods for NV that allow you to get a perk every level, but this is too much for my taste- makes a char way too overpowered and utterly defeats the purpose of having to be at least *a little* selective... but on the other hand, a paltry 15 perks just plain blows goats. Even for narrow, focused builds, you still end up not being able to select some key perks that you really should be able to, in my opinion. With only 15 perks, I still haven't been able to build a complete char, without making way too many pain in the butt choices and neglecting perks they really should be able to have. What I would really hope to find, if it already exists, or have made, if it doesn't- is a mod that adds just 5 extra perks, preferably in the level 11-19 range... so from level 1-10, you'd only get five perks... and from 20-30, only five perks. But from 10-20, you would get a perk every level. So the extra new perks would be given at levels 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19. These middle levels, from 10-20, are where a majority of the really useful perks, and the perks aimed at specialized builds, are acquired, so that is the most sensible range to do it in. I think there are probably quite a few people who feel like I do- that a perk every level is not something they want to do... it's a gamebreaker. But just 5 extra perks? I bet many would jump on that option. Thanks in advance! Edited May 9, 2011 by smokey751
drakeelvin
Sorry I misread your post and that was the wrong answer so I removed it. Been a long day :( But I wonder if it would be possible to create an item like, "The Big Book of Perks," that would give you a perk whenever you equiped it? Hmmm ... I never modded perks I'll look into that, such a thing would be cool to have. It would not even have to be re-usable, you could save it for when you have the requisite skill to get a perk you wanted and you could make getting more of them a bit of a challenge. Just like a skillbook. Edited May 10, 2011 by drakeelvin

Just like a skillbook. Not really what I was after. Was simply hoping some modder could enable 5 more perks to be given, at five levels that currently don't give a perk- the odd levels from 11 to 19, in my example. I don't know anything about modding NV, I was just going on the assumption that since mods have been made which give the player a perk at *every* level, it hopefully wouldn't be too difficult to make a mod that added only 5 more perks, at 5 specific odd-numbered levels. Moraelin
Hmm. You can easily change the number of levels per perk to 1, so you get 29 instead of 15 by the time you're level 30. SetGS iLevelsPerPerk to 1 Or you can just change that variable in the GECK and save it as your own mod. Edited May 11, 2011 by Moraelin

Thanks in advance! @smokey751: Since I screwed up my first reply, I did some research on this tonight and it appears to be totally doable as a mod with NVSE (New Vegas Script Extender). I don't have 100% of the knowledge to finish it, I'd say about 90-95%. Mainly I don't have the time this week to learn that final 5-10% and properly test to ensure it would actually work, but maybe someone who knows how to use the NVSE gamesettings command in a script could do it with one quest script and fire it off to you. Currently I don't even have the latest NVSE I've been working on other mods. However, this is of interest to me because I have a couple of features in mind that I want to be triggered when the player reaches a certain level, so learning how to do things in a script on level up is not that far down on my to-do list. If nobody else does this by the weekend, I'll take a crack at it. In the meantime, you can get your desired result using the console, as follows: When you hit level 10 and finish leveling, enter the console using ~ (tilde key) and enter the following command: setgs iLevelsPerPerk 1 This will give you one perk per level. Use ~ a second time to close console. When you hit level 20, enter the console again and enter the following command: setgs iLevelsPerPerk 2 This will return you to one perk per two levels. Close the console again and you're done. Edited May 11, 2011 by drakeelvin

drakeelvin
Thanks, i'll make a note of that. Probably easier than making a mod just to do that task. Thanks for responding! It's done. It was quite cool learning quite a few new things to make this work, this was my first mod using NVSE as a programmer, and I learned how to make my first quest scripts and do stuff on level ups. I even had to make an XP booster mod to properly test it, 1500XP per kill LOL, and almost 2K per kill when I got 3 levels of swift learning :D This was well worth the excercise, enjoy!
