Alceister
Just wondering what are some good melee/fist/throwing weapon mods which a) Change the way they work in-game. b) Add ones which aren't completely out of theme (like spears)
Moraelin
Hmm, there are a few melee weapons around. Dunno if any actually changes the way they work, though. Editing animations is something most of us can't do, so two-handers will still work like a two-hander, and thrown weapons will still work like a thrown weapon. You might find something which is a slightly more creative use of what's already there, such as my Hasta which is a melee spear instead of thrown spear, but ultimately it's still a two-hander with a different mesh, just categorized as something different than thrown spear for the game. "Out of theme" is something you'll have to decide for yourself, though, since everyone has a different idea of what the theme is or should be. E.g., some of us think that since even new guns and energy weapons are manufactured, they have no reason to be pre-rusted, others want everything to look like it's been first marinated in sea water for 200 years. E.g., some of us think a good Legion smith and a couple of slaves could jolly well smelt some iron and hammer it into a proper Roman gladius or hasta, others swear by contraptions made out of an old broomstick, a piece of car bumper and lots of rusty wire. Some people like the Legion to look like the 1st century BC legions of Caesar, others want them to be using turbolasers, the same way as at the time Caesar's legions were the most technologically advanced army in the world. (Except maybe China.) Some people want replicas of 20'th century weapons, others want futuristic energy weapons. Etc. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder ;) So basically you'll have to look and decide for yourself. Alceister
What I mean by "change the way they work" is that they add a bit more intelligence to their use other than mashing away on the mouse button. Likewise, it'd also be great if there were more combat moves for both melee and unarmed. And when I talk about additions that aren't out of place, I mean something that doesn't use textures that are excessively shiny or plasticky, or are much higher or lower res than everything else in-game. Something rather like the Junk weapons that were in Fallout 3 and ported over to NV.
Moraelin
As I was saying, some of us have different idea about what's out of place. A freshly manufactured gun at the gun-runner kiosk coming already with scratches and rust is very much out of place for me, for example. A Roman legionary runningh around with rust on his blade and not getting executed for it, even more out of place. But other people have other ideas. That's why I was saying that you'll have to look for yourself and decide what fits your own ideas of what belongs there and what doesn't. As for different moves, no, AFAIK nobody changed the game enough to support more than one power attack and one special VATS attack for melee weapons. I'm affraid you're stuck with that.
