DrutarTheSavage
Hey guys!I would like to have a question about Witcher 3's modding capabilities. Well I guess the first line speaks for itself. How far you can go?I have a vision in my mind for a long time now. I don't want to tell much about it yet, let's just say, it would totally change everything in a game...it's a big project. Right now, I'm looking for a fantasy game, which would be perfect to mod, and which isn't one of the Elder Scrolls games, or Mount&Blade. The Witcher 3 looks like a good choice, but I heard that the modding tools aren't really what was expected. That's why I'm asking you. What I'd need:- Replaceable character models, and textures, including Player Character and NPCs- Replaceable objects, like buildings, trees, and..well everything- Not just replacing, but adding new stuff into the game, like weapons, armor, any kind of objects (models too, not just textures)- Adding new story, dialogues, quests- Adding (also any kind of) new items, like food, potions, ingredients- Adding and/or replacing animations- This list could go on foreverEssentially I'd like to turn a game, into another game. I know, Oblivion or Skyrim, is more sutiable for this job, I've been working with both of them. But also, I'm a little tired of them. I love the Elder Scrolls games, I really do, but they do not fit into my vision.A need something more fresh. I need a game in which you don't swing a sword like a novice, even on the highest skill level. So what do you guys think? Is the Wild Hunt capable to turn into something totally different? Also, if not, could you suggest another game (which is not outdated)? I'm very excited to start working already, but can't really find a game for a total conversion. I'm starting to think I should rather go with a free engine like, Unity, or Unreal and start from scratch.Oh, one more thing. I'm also interested in isometric ARPGs, also called "Diablo clones". I heard that Torchlight II is very moddable. But let's just stick to The Witcher for now. Thanks in advance! Deleted2770933User
Haha, good luck with your schoolboy fantasy, but Witcher 3 is NOT going to be the game you turn into another game. You'd be better off getting a copy of the Unreal Engine and starting from scratch and build your own game.
DrutarTheSavage
Schoolboy fantasy? You have no idea, what I have in my mind. It's not some kind of high-fantasy, anime stuff. I asked about modding capabilities, not for opinions. Especially since I didn't say anything about the project itself. Anyway, thanks...I guess. djkovrik
The Witcher 3 is not modding friendly (it is modding unfriendly I would say) so most of ideas from your list are impossible or very hard to implement.

I was using "schoolboy fantasy" as an indication of your naive confidence that you are going to make even a dent in this game, let alone turn it into something else.I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but it's not going to happen. It doesn't look like you have created a single basic mod for this game yet...first find out what is involved before you set yourself these impossible goals.like I said, you are being very naive thinking you are going to achieve what you have described here. How am I naive? I don't get it. I'm doing exactly what you're saying. "Trying to find out what is involved". I didn't DECIDE it is going to be the Witcher I want to use as a resource. There's no "bubble" at all. I came here to ask experinced modders of this game, what is possible and what is not. Nothing else. And I did my research elswhere too of course. Anyway, most people say it's "okay but complicated", or just simply call the mod tools bad. It's obvious, I have to keep looking for something else. That's exactly why I came here, to get an answer. I got it. Thank you. Any other games you could suggest besides most Bethesda games?
