Seriously, who knew that it was out?

The big questions I have is what's it like and where are the mods (it is a Bethesda game.)?

Also, not a lot of hype about it.

Working nights made it difficult for me to remember when it actually came out. No, there wasn't a lot of hype the closer it got to release. Bethesda had a LOT of videos on youtube, but other than that, nothing much was stated.

I have both versions, and have (IMO) played enough of both.

Console: Horrible. Very slow when selecting anything in the menus, the use of S.M.A.R.T. movement is clunky at best (for the 360 its defaulted to the LB) which, in most shooters, is a grenade button. At release they had to send a patch starting off, which is never a good sign (New Vegas anyone?). The two biggest issues I saw was the controls, and the struggling the console obviously had with everything on the screen happening at once. This is based on the 360 version mind you.

PC: Much better in loading and streamlining everything happening on the screen. This is to be expected since it's the computer version. Something odd Bethesda did, was had it provided by Valve (Steam client attached to the disc, and is needed to install and play the game). Not sure that was a good move for Bethesda to do as a lot of people have issues with Steam to begin with. Everything seems to flow a lot better in the PC version. Loading is more streamlined, and there is little to no lag.

Both Version: I have a huge issue with the AI. I get that the purpose of Brink is to move, and stay together. But the AI seems to have everything down to such a degree, that playing by yourself seems to be a game of how many times you are willing to respawn. Another issue, deals with accuracy in both the player and the AI. It seems you have nearly the same accuracy from the hip (as long as you do controlled bursts) as you do aiming down the sights. Being in the military, I can promise you this isn't the case at all. From the hip is mainly used for cover fire, or to divert enemy attention away from the real shooters. This is a game however, so I get the need for some fantasy based rules. The AI manages some very, very accurate fire from across maps. Very difficult to get over when trying to SMART move to different places.

I can review more later (this is actually something I plan on doing on a regular basis, just havent been able to since I am trying to PCS at the same time).

Remember; Splash Damage made the game, NOT Bethesda. Bethesda Softworks (not Game Studios) just published/distributed it, so your gonna have to ask Splash about the mods, and any bug fixes/patches. As for distributing through Steam, they did the same thing with New Vegas after the failure of using GFWL with Fallout 3. It's not really 'odd' for Bethesda to distribute through stream, it's basically the gaming industry "norm" now.

I only say it's odd because the majority of the fan-base for Beth Produced games preferred the disc with a mod that removes GFWL (from what I have seen that is; I am by no means saying it as a rule or anything).

I wasn't aware NV was distributed through Steam if you didn't already purchase it from Steam to begin with. I am not one of the players that prefer one version or the other, which normally means I will purchase through Steam (I like being able to have the one account that has all my games on it).

Yeah, Bethesda has kind of switched over to the whole 'Steam' on PC thing. Even if you buy a disc for New Vegas, you still have to activate it through Steam. It's rumored to be the same with Rage & Hunted(two other games Bethesda is publishing), and more than likely will be the same with Skyrim. Plus, Fallout 3 was the only Bethsoft game to use GFWL, so as far as the majority goes, it would really only apply to those who own Fallout 3.

Why did I keep thinking Oblivion was on GFWL?

I think I put that much stock in the 'majority' because of how many times I read through Google or the Nexus or any other forum, people not liking GFWL, and also how much I played FO3 while trying to keep GFWL activated. If I remember correctly, I ended up getting GFWL off my game, because it was too much of a strain while I was playing.

Personally, I don't mind them putting things through Steam. Makes it easier when I have to move (or get a new rig), ensuring I still have all my games intact. But, as I just proved, I am not a decent judge of 'the masses' so I can't speak for anyone else. Is this push through Steam a good idea?
